The roll includes an air and water barrier article, a pressure sensitive adhesive disposed on the first major surface of the barrier article, first and second coating compositions disposed on the opposing second major surface of the barrier article, and a liner having a first major surface in contact with the first coating composition and the second coating composition. The first coating composition has a first peel adhesion to the first major surface of the liner that is lower than a second peel adhesion of the second coating composition to the first major surface of the liner. The pressure sensitive adhesive contacts a second major surface of the liner when wound in the roll, and a peel adhesion between the second major surface of the liner and the pressure sensitive adhesive is less than or equal to the second peel adhesion. There are also provided methods of applying barrier articles, films made using these barrier articles, and building envelopes made using such films.

Compositions and films are described comprising a polylactic (PLA) polymer and a copolymer comprising a first moiety comprising a C12-C30 alkyl group and a second moiety that is miscible in the composition. Suitable first moieties include a C12-C30 alkyl (meth)acrylate or a polyvinyl alcohol comprising pendent C12-C30 alkyl groups. Suitable second moieties include C1-C10 (meth)acrylic acid or ester thereof, vinyl acetate and ethylene vinyl acetate. The aforementioned composition may be used to form a release layer of an adhesive article such as a pressure sensitive adhesive tape. The films may be a monolithic film or a film layer of a multilayer film. The release layer may be disposed upon a substrate layer that may also comprise PLA. The films are produced by melt extrusion of the aforementioned composition and may be oriented.

Composition and films comprising polylactic acid polymer and copolymer comprising long chain alkyl moiety

A method of making an adhesive article is described comprising melt extruding a core film layer comprising a composition comprising at least 50% of a polylactic acid polymer. The method further comprises melt extruding an adhesive layer on a major surface of the core film layer such that regions of interdiffusion are present between the core film layer and adhesive layer. The adhesive layer may comprise C1-C10 (meth)acrylic acid or ester thereof, vinyl acetate, ethylene vinyl acetate, hydrolysed polyvinyl alcohol and combinations thereof. The adhesive layer may also be a pressure sensitive adhesive. The method further comprises melt extruding a release film layer on an opposing major surface of the core film layer. The layers are sequentially extruded or co-extruded and can be uniaxially or biaxially oriented. Articles comprising a core film layer comprising a composition comprising at least 50% of a polylactic acid polymer and an adhesive layer disposed on a major surface of the core layer are also described.

Adhesive articles comprising polylactic acid polymer film and method of making

Surface-modified adhesives may be prepared by contacting an adhesive layer to an at least partially discontinuous layer on a releasing substrate and removing the adhesive layer such that at least a portion of the at least partially discontinuous layer adheres to the adhesive surface. The modified adhesive surface remains an adhesive surface. The modified adhesive layer can be used to prepare adhesive articles, including articles containing multiple surface-modified adhesive layers.

Surface-modified adhesives

A curable composition including (a) at least one organosiloxane compound, fluorinated organosiloxane compound, or combination thereof having reactive silane functionality including at least two hydroxysilyl moieties; (b) at least one organosiloxane oligomer, fluorinated organosiloxane oligomer, or combination thereof having reactive silane functionality including at least two hydrosilyl moieties; and (c) a catalyst composition including (1) at least one base selected from amidines, guanidines, phosphazenes, proazaphosphatranes, and combinations thereof, and (2) at least one Lewis acid. At least one of the components (a) and (b) has an average reactive silane functionality of at least three, and the composition is substantially free of organic solvent(s). An alkoxysilane compound may be optionally included in the curable composition. A process for coating the composition to prepare articles having the cross-linked composition on at least a portion of at least one major substrate surface is also disclosed.

Curable organosiloxane oligomer compositions

A protective film includes a base layer and a wear layer, the wear layer comprising a UV cured hardcoat resin, and the UV cured hardcoat resin comprising surface modified silica nanoparticles. The protective film may comprise a pressure sensitive adhesive for adhesion to a floor. The protective film may be used, for example, as a protective floor finish.

Protective films and related methods

A method includes contact printing an active composition onto a surface of a release substrate to form a printed surface. The active composition spontaneously dewets the surface of the release substrate to form active deposits on the surface of the release substrate. The active composition comprises an active agent dissolved or dispersed in an aqueous liquid vehicle. A pressure-sensitive adhesive layer is disposed on the printed surface.

Curable polysiloxane coating composition

A process to mark a multilayered article with a laser (). The multilayered article () includes a laser-markable layer () having at least one organic polymer and at least one light-sensitive pigment therein, and including at least one release agent associated with the laser-markable layer. Laser-marking of the laser-markable layer is accomplished by directing laser radiation () into the multilayered article through the release agent () to induce an interaction between the light-sensitive pigment and the organic polymer. As a result of the interaction, a visually perceptible marking () is formed in the article. The laser-marked article includes a laser-markable layer and a first release agent associated with a surface of the laser-markable layer. The marking(s) in the laser-markable layer is visible through the layer of release agent, and the marking is a result of the laser-induced interaction between the light-sensitive pigment and the organic polymer.

Laser marking process and articles

A structured paper release liner () for use with an article () backed with a pressure sensitive adhesive, an adhesive-backed article assembly () and methods of making each are disclosed. The liner () comprises a piece of paper () having a release side free of a structural support layer, a back side, and a structured release surface () having a pattern formed into the paper () on the release side. A release material is on the structured release surface of the paper. The pattern formed in the paper () is designed so as to form fluid egress channels in a bonding surface of the pressure sensitive adhesive (). The fluid egress channels define a structured bonding surface () having exit pathways for fluid to bleed out from behind the article when the structured bonding surface () is adhered to or otherwise disposed on a substrate.

Structured paper release liner, adhesive-backed article assembly and method of making same

A conductive adhesive composition is provided and articles that include the adhesive composition as a component thereof. The conductive adhesive composition comprises: (a) pressure sensitive adhesive; (b) electrolyte comprising water soluble or water dispersible organic chloride; and (c) humectant. In some embodiments, the conductive adhesive composition is a bicontinuous composition comprising an aqueous phase and an oil phase, and the bicontinuous composition may be derived from a polymerizable microemulsion composition, the microemulsion composition comprising: an aqueous phase comprising one or more hydrophilic monomers or oligomers and/or one or more amphiphilic monomers or oligomers in water, the water-soluble or water-dispersible organic chloride, surfactant and humectant; and an oil phase comprising one or more hydrophobic monomers or oligomers. Biomedical articles such as biomedical electrodes, may incorporate the foregoing adhesive as a component.

Conductive adhesives and biomedical articles including same

Retroreflective articles having multilayer films are useful for commercial graphics and retroreflective products, such as roll-up signs for highway transportation safety. The articles comprise multilayer films having at least one layer of polyurethane and at least one layer of a copolymer of alkylene and at least one non-acidic, polar co-monomer. Articles having the new multilayer films provide the same or improved performance, are less expensive, and offer improved methods for manufacturing, when compared to prior articles.
