A method, apparatus, and system are disclosed for providing modified orbital assistance data to a mobile station to determine its location using global navigation satellite system (GNSS). In some example embodiments, a method for determining a location of a mobile station using orbital assistance data may include: receiving satellite positioning signals from a plurality of GNSS satellites; receiving orbital assistance data comprising a distance between a location on an antenna which is associated with a first frequency of the satellite positioning signals and a location on the antenna which is associated with a second frequency of the satellite positioning signals; and determining the location of the mobile station based on the orbital assistance data and the satellite positioning signals.

In some implementations, a method of facilitating pointing of a mobile device at a satellite of a satellite constellation for satellite-based data communication, may comprise obtaining, at a first time point, historical orbital data indicative of orbital movement of a plurality of satellites of a satellite constellation over a period of time. The method may also comprise assigning a reference orbital dataset of the plurality orbital datasets determined at a reference time point to corresponding control boxes of a reference grid covering the satellite constellation, wherein each control box of the reference grid corresponds to a satellite of the satellite constellation. The method may also comprise mapping the plurality orbital datasets to the reference grid for an orbital model based on the assignment of the reference orbital dataset.

In some implementations, a mobile device may determine a set of target orientations of the mobile device in which an antenna lobe of the mobile device is pointed toward the satellite, the set of target orientations based on: an orientation of the antenna lobe relative to the mobile device, and a location of the satellite relative to the mobile device. The mobile device may determine a current orientation of the mobile device. The mobile device may provide, at a user interface (UI) of the mobile device, guidance for rotating the mobile device from the current orientation to an orientation within the set of target orientations.

Geofencing for satellite communication in the absence of terrestrial networks

In some implementations, a device may obtain historical orbital data indicative of orbital movement of a set of satellites over a period of time, the set of satellites comprising at least a subset of satellites of the satellite constellation. The device may, for each satellite in the set of satellites, estimate a set of orbital parameter values by fitting an orbital model to the historical data of the respective satellite, wherein at least one orbital parameter value of the set of orbital values is common across a group of satellites within the set of satellites. The device may send assistance data to at least one mobile device, the assistance data indicative of the respective set of orbital parameter values for all satellites of the set of satellites.

Assistance data for orienting a mobile device for satellite-based communications

Described are methods, systems, and devices for correcting ionospheric error. In some aspects, a mobile device equipped with a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver is configured to determine a positioning measurement of a GNSS signal. The mobile device is further configured to receive augmentation data from an augmentation system. When the mobile device is unable to obtain newer augmentation data, the mobile device can instead obtain augmentation data associated with historical Total Electron Content (TEC) values. In such instances, the augmentation data will have been generated to represent ionospheric delay during a time period that ended before the augmentation data is obtained. Based on the augmentation data associated with historical TEC values and a pierce point of the received GNSS signal, an ionospheric error in the positioning measurement of the GNSS signal can be determined and corrected.

Ionosphere grid history and compression for GNSS positioning

Described are methods, systems, and devices for correcting ionospheric error. In some aspects, a mobile device equipped with a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver is configured to determine a positioning measurement of a GNSS signal. The mobile device is further configured to receive augmentation data from an augmentation system. When augmentation data for a current measurement period is unavailable, the mobile device can obtain augmentation data associated with Total Electron Content (TEC) values (e.g., vertical TEC values) during one or more prior measurement periods. Based on the augmentation data associated with TEC values during one or more prior measurement periods and a pierce point of the received GNSS signal, an ionospheric error in the positioning measurement of the GNSS signal can be determined and corrected.

A method, apparatus, and system are disclosed for providing modified orbital assistance data to a mobile station to determine its location using global navigation satellite system (GNSS). The modified orbital assistance data may include predicted orbital information for the GNSS satellites combined with antenna phase center offset data for one or more GNSS satellites. The antenna phase center offset data may indicate an offset distance from the center of mass of the GNSS satellite to a position on an antenna of the respective GNSS satellite. The modified orbital assistance data may be in an earth-centered earth-fixed (ECEF) frame of reference and the antenna phase center offset data may be in a body-centered frame of reference.

Techniques are provided for utilizing a mobile device to estimate ionospheric delays in GNSS transmissions. An example method of determining a position of a mobile device includes obtaining a pseudorange measurements and carrier-phase measurements for a satellite at a first frequency band and a second frequency band, determining a bias estimate for the satellite based on a plurality of pseudorange measurements and carrier-phase measurements, determining a delta carrier-phase measurement for the satellite based on the carrier-phase measurements at the first frequency band and the second frequency band, and determining the position of the mobile device based at least in part on the delta carrier-phase measurement, and the pseudorange measurements, the carrier-phase measurements, or both.
