A magnetic head actuating mechanism including a capstan attached to the shaft of a magnetic head driving motor, and an actuator arm supported on a pivot, adapted to be turned through a thin metallic band by the capstan and mounted fixedly at one end thereof with at least one magnetic head. The magnetic head actuating mechanism is designed so that the moment of the unbalanced mass of the turning assembly thereof about the pivot is within the predetermined range. The magnetic head is held stationary even while the magnetic head driving motor is not energized. Thus, the magnetic head actuating mechanism obviates the injurious state of contact between the magnetic head and a magnetic disk easily and need not have any magnetic head locking mechanism.

Magnetic head actuating mechanism constructed to minimize address effect

The invention is related to a magnetic head loading and unloading device and includes an electromagnet having a spring loaded armature operative to load a double-sided flexible magnetic recording disc having two associated opposite magnetic heads and resiliently unloading the magnetic heads from the recording disc. A permanent magnet is connected to the armature and forms a speed sensor with an associated solenoid to sense the loading or an unloading speed of the magnetic heads. The solenoid includes an output connected to a negative input of a differential amplifier which includes a positive input comprising a command loading signal. The amplifier output is connected to a winding for exciting the electromagnet through an emitter grounded transistor.

A double side type flexible magnetic disc drive apparatus comprises a damper which imparts a damping force being proportional to the shifting speed and is held between a head shifting mechanism and a stationary part whereby damage of a flexible magnetic recording medium caused by shifting the heads can be decreased to prolong the life of the recording medium and the time required for reaching stable contacting of the heads with the recording medium can be shortened.
