An image forming apparatusincludes a main machineincluding an operating sectionand capable of functioning as a multifunction machine by itself, and at least one option machinetoadded to a side-face side of an enclosureof the main machine. The apparatusincludes the operating sectionat a fixed position in the width direction of the enclosure. The enclosure has a unified first color of a same tone at a front face thereof, and an operating position lineis formed at a part of the front face of the enclosure and has a second color that is clearly different from the first color so as to be a guide indicating a position of the operating section

An image forming apparatus includes a processing unit which performs an image recording process for recording an image on a recording medium based on image data; a movement mechanism which moves the processing unit; a first control section which controls the image recording process performed by the processing unit; and a second control section which acquires a state of progress of the image recording process and controls the movement mechanism so as to move the processing unit to a position according to the progress state.
