Supply water temperature in a cooling tower is detected by a temperature detector, and based on the temperature detected by the temperature detector, a flow control valve in a hydraulic pressure supply line is controlled. As a result, operation of a hydraulic motor connected to a cooling fan can be controlled to efficiently cool down the water temperature to reach a preset temperature. Further, by a pressure-compensated variable displacement regulator of a variable displacement pump, the flow control valve is controlled to have irreducibly minimum pressure difference such that pressure on upstream side is slightly higher than the pressure on downstream side. Therefore, discharge pressure of the variable displacement pump can be suppressed to the irreducibly minimum value, and capacity of the variable displacement pump can be controlled to match the opening degree of the flow control valve.

System for controlling hydraulic drive for cooling fan in cooling tower

Water to be cooled is sprayed through water spray ports at a bottom of an upper water vessel into a filler unit having a plurality of heat exchange surface members extending in parallel with each other to define flow passages between them and concurrently ambient air is sucked transversely into the flow passages. Thus, the water flowing down over the heat exchange surface members is cooled by the ambient air in a cross flow manner. In such cooling of water, some of the flow passages are sectioned so as to supply the water in the upper water vessel to some of flow passages so that in a normal condition with no fear of white smoke being generated, the water is sprayed over all of the heat exchange surface members and direct cooling is effected in every flow passage by the ambient air. In a condition with a possibility of the white smoke being generated, spray of the water into some of the flow passages is interrupted so that the direct cooling by the ambient air of the water in the flow passages into which the water is sprayed is effected simultaneously with dry heating of the ambient air flowing through the flow passages into which no water is sprayed and wet air resulting from the direct cooling is mixed with dry air resulting from the dry heating. As a result, the white smoke is prevented from being generated.

Process for cooling water and cooling tower

Synthetic resin structural members are inserted into a hollow joint member to abut each other in the joint member. A bearing-pressure damping member is fitted into each of bolt holes on the members, axes of bolts extend alternately in two mutually perpendicular directions. The structural members and the hollow joint member are secured with bolts and nuts. Due to damping action resulting from elastic deformations of the damping members, a load is substantially evenly distributed over the whole bolts to prevent concentration of the load to some of the bolts. The arrangement of the bolts with their axes extending alternately in two mutually perpendicular directions will shorten the length of the joint member.

Joint structure for synthetic resin structural members

A method for joining a structural member made of a synthetic resin such as fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) with a further synthetic resin or other structural member. The method is effective when using synthetic resin members instead of conventional lumber or steel members in a main framework of a cooling tower. FRP members increase the corrosion resistance and simplify the assembly of such towers.
