A controller associated with a domain includes a network interface; one or more processors communicatively coupled to the network interface; and memory storing instructions that, when executed, cause the one or more processors to communicate with one or more additional controllers via the network interface, wherein each of the one or more additional controllers is in one or more additional domains, and wherein each domain provides different characteristics, utilize at least part of a control pattern to obtain requirements for a service, and cause, utilizing any of a peer relationship and a hierarchical relationship with the one or more additional controllers, at least part of implementation of a composition of resources to meet the requirements for the service, wherein the composition defines the resources provided in each domain for the service, and wherein the composition is based on the requirements and the different characteristics in each domain.

System and methods for autonomous resource partitioning in a network include a resource controller configured to provision resources which are any of virtual resources and physical resources in one or more layers in the network and monitor availability of the resources in the network; a resource manager configured to determine the any of virtual resources and physical resources as required for Quality of Service (QoS) in the network; a resource broker configured to advertise and assign resource requests to corresponding resources; and a partition manager configured to track the utilization of the resources provided by the one or more layers and to adjust resource usage of the resources in negotiation with the resource broker to minimize a cost of implementation.

Autonomic resource partitions for adaptive networks

The present invention moves service control, including call control, for a user element from a cellular network to a multimedia subsystem (MS), such as the Internet Protocol (IP) Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). Call control is provided by the MS irrespective of whether the user element is using cellular or WLAN access for the call. Call control for originating and terminating calls in the CS or MS as well as transferring calls between a circuit-switched subsystem (CS) and MS is anchored at a continuity control function (CCF) in the MS. All call signaling for the call is passed through the CCF. The CCF is a service provided in the user element's home MS and anchors the user element's active CS calls and MS sessions to enable active roaming across the CS and MS.

Circuit-switched and multimedia subsystem voice continuity

For an incoming session intended for a user element, a domain selection function (DSF) is provided in a multimedia subsystem (MS) to select a circuit-switched subsystem (CS) or MS domain to use when routing the incoming session to the user element. Regardless of the domain in which incoming sessions are originated, the incoming sessions intended for the user element are routed to an S-CSCF in the MS. The S-CSCF directly or indirectly employs the DSF to determine whether to use the MS or the CS for terminating the incoming session. Based on available domain selection criteria, the DSF will select an appropriate domain, such as the MS or CS, to use for routing the incoming session to the user element. The domain selection decision of the DSF is provided to the S-SCSF, which will proceed by routing the incoming session to the user element via the selected domain.

Network domain selection

The present invention maintains calls during transfers between different types of subsystems, even when there is a bearer path interruption at the user element due to the original connection from the transferring-out subsystem being dropped before the new connection in the transferring-in subsystem is established. The call signaling leg toward the remote endpoint of the remote party is held, while the call signaling leg toward the user element is moved from the transferring-out subsystem to the transferring-in subsystem and a new bearer path is established via the transferring-in subsystem. During transfers with a bearer path interruption, a portion of the bearer path leading to the remote endpoint may be connected to a media resource function, which will provide an announcement to the remote party. Once the user element is accessible in the transferring-in subsystem, the bearer path is further transferred to the user element via the transferring-in subsystem.

Circuit-switched and multimedia subsystem voice continuity with bearer path interruption

The present invention provides for routing calls between disparate domains, such as a circuit-switched subsystem and a multimedia subsystem. When a user element is homed in a first domain and roaming in a second domain, an incoming call will arrive at a gateway node in the first domain. As a result, a message identifying the user element and indicating that an incoming call has been received at first gateway node for the first domain is sent to a continuity control function (CCF) residing in the multimedia subsystem. The CCF will create and effect delivery of an inter-domain routing number to the first gateway node. The inter-domain routing number is used by the first gateway node to route the call to the second domain. The inter-domain routing number may be associated with a second gateway node of the second domain.

Inter-domain call routing

Methods and nodes for coordinating communication sessions are described herein. A method includes providing, by a control system, a signaling anchor point at a domain transfer function in a visited multimedia subsystem for an access signaling leg and a remote access signaling leg for a communication session between a user element and a public service access point and coordinating call signaling for the communication session via the access signaling leg and the remote signaling leg.

Transfer of emergency services session between disparate subsystems

A system and method is provided for remote session control of IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) sessions. A remote media flow may be established as part of an origination process wherein the controller UE requests that the media flow is established on a remote media UE as part of the origination request. A remote media flow may also be established as part of a termination process wherein the controller UE identified in the termination request identifies a remote media UE on which a remote media is to be established. Embodiments also allow for the session control to be transferred from a first device to a second device, while maintaining one or more media flows on the first device.

Remote media IMS sessions

Call control for originating and terminating calls in a visited circuit-switched subsystem (CS) or home multimedia subsystem (MS) as well as transferring calls between the visited CS and the home MS may be anchored at a continuity control function (CCF) in the home MS. Call signaling for the call may be passed through the CCF. When the user element is homed to the home MS and served by the visited CS, the bearer path for the call is established based on the relative proximity of the home MS and the visited CS. When a local MS is more proximate to the visited CS, the bearer path may be routed through a gateway in the local MS, instead of through the gateway in the home MS. When the home MS is sufficiently proximate to the visited CS, the bearer path is routed through the gateway in the home MS.

A method for communications subsystem operation includes detecting an occurrence of an event initiated by a user, accessing a database to retrieve information related to the user and the event, establishing a connection with an application, and performing an operation with the application through the connection. The application is based on the event and the information, and the operation is based on the event.

System and method for event driven operations in a communications system

The present invention establishes a new protocol that supports the continuity of a single radio voice call onto a circuit switched communications system through the use of a special addressing identifier. This special identifier is called the single radio voice call identifier, and it designates the use of a single radio voice call continuity procedure for the transition to the circuit switched communication system. The applications server receives the single radio identifier and performs the transfer of the single radio voice session without the need for other address or identifier information, and also uses the single radio identifier or a new message type to initiate the correlation of parameters related to service control session establishment in later steps.

A method for application server operations includes receiving a first message from an application server, the first message including a request to initiate a collaborative session with a first communications device and a second communications device, examining a first profile of the first communications device and a second profile of the second communications device, establishing the collaborative session with the second communications device based on the first profile of the first communications device and the second profile of the second communications device, and sending a second message to the application server, the second message including information regarding the collaborative session.
