Airbag device

An airbag device includes a main airbag unit with a main bag body that is inflated and deployed from a front side of a front seat when impact is input, and a supplemental airbag unit with a supplemental bag body that is inflated and deployed from a side portion of the main airbag unit when impact is input. The supplemental bag body comes into contact with the main bag body when inflated and deployed and restricts inflation and deployment of the main bag body.

An airbag () comprises a main bag body (), an opening () formed in the main bag body (), a small bag body () extending from the opening () to the inside of the main bag body, and a joining section () at which a part of the small bag body is joined to the main bag body. The joining section () is provided in the area which, when the airbag is expanded, extends from both the side surfaces of the airbag or from the top surface () of the airbag to the rear surface () which comes in contact with and holds the occupant.

An air bag system includes an air bag folded so that an occupant-restraining face of the air bag which restrains an occupant upon a deployment is hidden inside a central portion of the folded air bag, and a retaining member for covering said folded air bag. The air bag is deployed by breaking a breaking portion provided on the retaining member, whereupon the retaining member is opened so that it is divided into a plurality of deployment-inhibiting portions, and the plurality of deployment-inhibiting portions are brought into engagement with an upper block and a lower block of an outer peripheral portion of the air bag deployed from the folded state, respectively, thereby delaying the deployment of the outer peripheral portion. Therefore, the occupant-restraining face of the folded air bag can be deployed at the very first to effectively restrain the occupant.

Air bag system

An airbag, airbag device and method provides a folded airbag that inflates leftward or rightward first and then inflates to a fully deployed shape. An airbag is folded along vertical folding lines into a band-shaped folded body that extends vertically, and the band-shaped folded body is folded along horizontal folding lines into a folded body. When the airbag inflates, a right half portion inflates faster than a left half portion.

Folded airbag and airbag device

An air bag is formed by sewing a first basic fabric opposed to an occupant and a second basic fabric on the opposite side, at a sewn portion along an outer peripheries of the fabrics. The air bag is folded in a longitudinally longer shape, and an oblong restricting member is wound around a central portion of the air bag to fix the air bag in a bundling manner, and then the air bag is vertically folded. In the process of expansion of the air bag, the air bag bundled by the restricting member is first expanded vertically and then expanded laterally after breakage of a breaking portion of the restricting member which cannot withstand a tension. Thus, by providing the restricting member, the shape and direction of the air bag can be controlled as desired in the process of deployment.

Air bag device

This invention relates to an air bag inflation gas generator and aims to surely retain the space between an igniter and an ignition agent of a gas generating agent pack and to surely caulk an end cap. This invention has a longitudinal cylindrical member having its both ends sealed by one end plate and the other end plate and a plurality of gas outlets formed in its outer periphery, a gas generating agent pack which is accommodated in the cylindrical member, accommodates a plurality of gas generating agents in the compiled state in the axial direction of a longitudinal cylindrical pack whose both ends are sealed with one end face and the other end face and has an ignition agent disposed close to the one end face, an igniter disposed at the one end plate of the cylindrical member, and an energizing member which is disposed between the other end plate of the cylindrical member and the other end face of the gas generating agent pack and energizes the gas generating agent pack toward the igniter side.

Air bag inflation gas generator

An air bag inflation gas generator to feed combustion gas for inflation of air bags such as air gas for absorbing collision shocks, life jackets, rafts and escape chutes, that aim to easily and surely control the flow rate of combustion gas into the air bag at the initial inflation of the air bag and to effectively utilize the entire purifying filter. The generator has a longitudinal outer cylindrical member having a plurality of gas outlets in its outer periphery, an inner cylindrical member inserted in the outer cylindrical member having gas flow openings formed in the outer periphery, a final filter disposed between the outer cylindrical member and the inner cylindrical member, a plurality of gas generating agents accommodated in a laminated state in the axial direction of the inner cylindrical member having a through hole formed at the center, and an igniter and an ignition agent disposed at one end of the inner cylindrical member and a shielding member for shielding the through hole is disposed at the gas generating agent or between the gas generating agents disposed at the middle part of the inner cylindrical member. This invention forms a plurality of gas flow openings in the substantial part of the outer periphery of the inner cylindrical member, and the hole area of these gas flow openings are designed to be larger as they get a way from the gas outlets of the outer cylindrical member.

This invention relates to an air bag inflation gas generator to feed gas for inflation of air bags such as air bags for absorbing collision shocks, life jackets, rubber, rafts, and escape chutes. The present invention comprises combustion chambers accommodating gas generating agents formed with separating members in the both ends of an elongate cylinder having gas outlets in the middle thereof, a cylindrical final filter installed inside the middle of the cylinder, intermediary filters installed between the final filter and the separating members in the cylinder, and orifices, facing toward the intermediary filters, opened at the separating members. The present invention may generate much larger volume of combustion gas generated from gas generating agents than the prior generators, purify a large volume of combustion gas completely, and control the burning of gas generating agents.

A retainer case accommodating an air bag and consisting of two separate parts, one being an open end side part terminating in an open end of the retainer case and the other being an inflator-secured end side part secured to the vehicle body, the open end side part and inflator-secured end side part being fitted together to form the retainer case. The open end side part of the retainer case is made less rigid than the inflator-secured end side part. When an impact is applied to the retainer case from the passenger compartment side, the open end side part undergoes a deformation and thus absorbs the impact. A stem of the air bag is secured to the retainer case with its edge clamped between the fitted portions of the open end side part and inflator-secured end side part of the retainer case.
