An image display apparatus is disclosed. The image display apparatus according to an embodiment of the present disclosure includes: a display; and a power supply to supply a driving voltage to the display, wherein the power supply includes: an AC/DC converter comprising at least one switching device and configured to convert an input AC voltage into a DC voltage and output the DC voltage to a dc link; a dc link capacitor disposed at the dc link; an input voltage detector to detect the input AC voltage; a dc link voltage detector to detect a dc link voltage; and a controller to control the AC/DC converter, wherein in response to the detected input AC voltage exceeding a first reference value and the detected dc link voltage being lower than or equal to a second reference value lower than the first reference value, the controller is configured to turn off the switching device in the AC/DC converter. Accordingly, burnout of the dc link capacitor may be prevented.

Image display apparatus

An image display apparatus is disclosed. The image display apparatus includes a display panel, an illuminance sensor to sense an ambient illuminance of the display panel, a plurality of light sources disposed in an edge region of a back surface of the display panel to output light, a plurality of switching elements to switch the light sources, and a processor to control the switching elements, wherein, when a difference in local dimming data of an input image between adjacent first and second regions is above a first reference value, the processor controls driving times of at least some of the switching elements to decrease a difference in illuminance between the first region and the second region, based on the illuminance sensed by the illuminance sensor.

An image display apparatus is disclosed. The image display apparatus includes a panel, a plurality of light sources to output light to the panel, a plurality of switching elements to switch the light sources, and a processor to control the switching elements, wherein the processor controls a current having a variable level to flow into each light source string among the light sources, based on local dimming data, thereby improving contrast in displaying images.
