A head-up display system and method are provided that suppress double images from a combiner by eliminating or reducing a reflection of a refracted image from the back surface of the combiner. The combiner contains a tilted axis polarizing structure that attenuates transmittance and subsequent reflection of a refracted polarized projector image but maintains high transmittance for the forward external scene imagery.

Apparatus and method for supressing double images on a combiner head-up display

A system and method of displaying a conformal-capable head-up display image is provided. Distortions caused by combiner curvature, for example, are removed by pre-distorting and projecting separate images for each eye. Shutter-based eyewear controls the visibility as the imagery is cycled, e.g., shuttered, between left and right eyes. The combined image generator, projector and eyewear system maintains minimal vergence errors, minimal dipvergence errors, acceptable average transmittance, and optionally, high conformality.

Apparatus and method for suppressing double images on a combiner head-up display

A system and method of displaying a conformal-capable head-up display image is provided. A pre-distorted right-eye image and a pre-distorted left-eye image are separately generated and projected toward a windscreen. The pre-distorted right-eye image is reflected off of the windscreen to supply a reflected right eye image to a right eyebox, and the pre-distorted left-eye image is reflected off of the windscreen to supply a reflected left eye image to a left eyebox. The reflected right-eye image and the reflected left-eye image are each non-distorted images.

Methods and systems are provided for presenting content comprising a plurality of frames using display panel comprising an array of display elements. A method comprises transferring image data for a first frame of the plurality of frames to a display element at the beginning of a first frame interval and activating an illumination assembly after transferring image data for the first frame to the display element to present the first frame. The method further comprises transferring image data for a second frame to an energy storage element corresponding to the display element during the first frame interval, and deactivating the illumination assembly prior to transferring the image data for the second frame from the energy storage element to the display element.

Methods and systems for presenting sequential video frames

Embodiments include aircraft systems, display systems, and methods for displaying three dimensional (3D) images. A backlight is controlled to sequentially alternate between activating a first set of light producing elements of the backlight and activating a second set of light producing elements of the backlight, where light produced by the first set of light producing elements is refracted by a lens system into a left eye viewing envelope, and light produced by the second set of light producing elements is refracted by the lens system into a right eye viewing envelope. A liquid crystal display (LCD) panel is controlled synchronously with the backlight in order to selectively pass or block portions of the light produced by the backlight in order to produce one or more left eye image frames in the left eye viewing envelope and one or more right eye image frames in the right eye viewing envelope.

A nuclear hardened liquid crystal display (LCD) and a method for hardening a liquid crystal display is provided. The nuclear hardened LCD can include an LCD glass laminate stack. The LCD glass laminate stack can include a front transparent substrate, a back substrate, and a liquid crystal material disposed between the front transparent substrate and the back substrate. The nuclear hardened LCD can further include a protective laminate stack positioned in front of the LCD glass laminate stack. The protective laminate stack can include a volume absorbing filter, that absorbs selective electromagnetic energy throughout a thickness of the volume absorbing filter.

A method of resizing a liquid crystal display (LCD) includes the steps of first determining a desired size for the LCD, thereby identifying an undesired portion of the LCD. Any tape automated bonding strips (TABs) corresponding to the undesired portions of the LCD are then removed. Any flex circuits, or portion thereof, corresponding to the undesired portion of the LCD are cut and removed. Any circuit boards, or portions thereof, corresponding to the undesired portion of the LCD are cut and removed. The display panel is cut to remove a portion of the display panel corresponding to the undesired portion of the LCD. Finally, the cut edge of the display panel is sealed.
