An audio/video data storing and searching apparatus is provided, which stores audio/video data including additional information of a user desired program, to thereby perform an easy searching. For this purpose, the present invention decodes a transport stream (TS) packet and reads additional information with respect to a user desired audio/video packet from program specific information (PSI), and inserts and stores the read result in a particular region of the audio/video packet and parses the additional information to perform a searching. Thus, the audio/video data storing apparatus extracts additional information, inserts the extracted additional information into a particular region, and stores resultant audio/video data. As a result, the audio/video data storing apparatus can reduce a capacity of a storage medium which is used for storing user desired audio/video data. Also, the audio/video data searching apparatus searches the stored audio/video data using additional information included in a particular region, to thereby provide an effect of enhancing a searching speed.

A motion image encoding apparatus for a current image containing an object uses mesh representation for encoding a motion image. The encoding apparatus includes an object extractor for extracting the object contained in the current image from received current image data and outputting object contour data indicating a contour of the extracted object. A predictive encoder performs a predictive encoding operation using the current image data, prestored data of a reference image, and control points of meshes which divide one of the current image and the reference image, and generates motion information relating to the control points, differential data between the current image and the reference image, and predictive image data. An object difference generator selects differential data in an object region among the differential data supplied from the predictive encoder to encode the selected differential data based on the object contour data output from the object extractor, and generates the selected differential data and the encoded differential data. An adder receives and adds the predictive image data output from the predictive encoder and the differential data selected in the object difference generator, and updates the reference image data prestored in the predictive encoder using the image data obtained by the addition result.

A data processing method and an apparatus thereof, which process EIA-775 OSD graphic data received from the outside based on IEEE 1394 standards by using a combined software/hardware method. The data processing apparatus using a combined software/hardware method includes a first data processor, in response to an interrupt control signal, for analyzing predetermined data among graphic data received from the outside based on IEEE 1394 standards and processing the same to output control data, a second data processor for outputting an interrupt control signal to process the predetermined data when the graphic data is received from the outside based on IEEE 1394 standards, and for calculating a destination address and the size of graphic data excluding the predetermined data to be output according to the control data, and a graphic processor for mixing video data with the graphic data, of which the destination address and the size are calculated. The image representation method includes segmenting an image using regular rectangular grids, where each vertex point of the rectangular grid is an individual pixel within an image; generating regular triangular meshes with respect to the image using pixel data associated with four vertex points of each respective rectangular grid formed by the segmentation; computing the degree of texture description of the image relative to respective control points, which correspond to the vertex points of the regular triangular meshes; removing a control point with the least texture description among the texture descriptions calculated for the control points; triangulating a region of support which is enclosed by control points neighboring the removed control point and associated with the removed control point, into irregular triangular meshes such that each neighboring control point functions as a vertex point; and repeating the steps of 1) control point removal, 2) triangulation of the region of support associated to the removed control point, and 3) removal of meshes on the basis of the texture description associated with the remaining control points until the number of the remaining control points after triangulation reaches a predetermined number.

An object-oriented image representation apparatus using irregular meshes includes an object image extractor for extracting image blocks containing an object contained in a whole image from the whole image represented by received image data. A regular mesh former generates rectangular mesh data including fixed control points, floating control points and pixel data from the extracted object image. The fixed control points and the floating control points are vertex points belonging to an object image among vertex points of a plurality of the rectangular meshes which divide the whole image, and the fixed control points are vertex points located at the corners of the object image. An irregular mesh former receives the rectangular mesh data and repeats an operation for removing the floating control point having image descriptiveness of the lowest degree and an operation for dividing a region of support from which the floating control point is removed into polygonal meshes, until the number of the remaining floating control points reaches a predetermined threshold value.
