In a wireless communication system, a user equipment (UE) may measure synchronization signal blocks (SSBs) to evaluate neighbor cells. A UE configured with multiple potential receive beams may conventionally measure one receive beam per SSB. A UE may improve the speed of receive beam measurements by performing measurements using demodulation reference signals (DMRS) of physical broadcast channel (PBCH) symbols, which occur twice per SSB. The UE may perform a cell search for neighbor cells available to the UE in a synchronized network to determine a number of the neighbor cells and timing information for each of the neighbor cells. The UE may measure one or more receive beams using the DMRs of the PBCHs of SSBs received from the neighbor cells. Each receive beam may be measured during a beam switch time unit including a PBCH symbol from each of the neighbor cells according to the timing information.

Use of physical broadcast channel demodulation reference signal to speed up neighbor cell measurement

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may measure a signal strength for each beam of a set of multiple beams. The UE may select, from the set of multiple beams, a set of two or more beams each having a respective signal strength satisfying a threshold. The UE may attempt to decode a first broadcast channel signal of a first beam of the set of two or more beams in a single broadcast channel period. The UE may decode, after failing to decode the first broadcast channel signal of the first beam, a second broadcast channel signal of a second beam of the set of two or more beams in the single broadcast channel period.

Decoding broadcast channel signaling using multiple beams

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A wireless communications system may support adaptive scheduling in idle mode. In some cases, a user equipment (UE) may receive control signaling indicating a first beam sweeping occasion and a first paging occasion within a search time period. The UE may select a first quantity of measurement occasions of the first beam sweeping occasion for monitoring multiple beams. The first quantity of measurement occasions may be based on a channel quality metric observed for a prior beam during a prior beam sweeping occasion. The UE may select a first beam to monitor for a first paging message during the first paging occasion based on respective channel quality metrics observed for multiple beams during the first quantity of measurement occasions. Further, the UE may monitor for the first paging message during the first paging occasion using the first beam.

Techniques for adaptive scheduling in idle mode

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may receive a synchronization signal block (SSB) comprising a plurality of symbols. The UE may obtain, during a plurality of measurement windows, a plurality of measurements associated with a beam group of a plurality of reception beams corresponding to a plurality of symbols of the SSB, wherein the beam group is associated with a serving cell and comprises a first set of beams and a second set of beams, wherein each beam of the beam group corresponds to a measurement window having a window size that is less than a size of a corresponding symbol of the plurality of symbols of the SSB. The UE may perform a wireless communication task based on the plurality of measurements. Numerous other aspects are described.

Obtaining a plurality of measurements associated with a plurality of symbols of a synchronization signal block

A UE may identify a channel correlation matrix for a channel between the UE and a network node. The UE may identify whether the channel is associated with an LOS condition based on the channel correlation matrix. The UE may obtain a plurality of eigenvalues of the channel correlation matrix based on an eigen decomposition operation on the channel correlation matrix. The UE may identify whether the channel is associated with the LOS condition based on the plurality of eigenvalues of the channel correlation matrix. The UE may identify that the channel is associated with the LOS condition if a difference between a greatest eigenvalue in the plurality of eigenvalues and an average of other eigenvalues in the plurality of eigenvalues is greater than a threshold. Otherwise, the UE may identify that the channel is not associated with the LOS condition.

Identifying LOS using channel correlation matrix

Example implementations include a method, apparatus and computer-readable medium for wireless communication configured for estimating a channel using a set of predefined sensing beams to measure reference signals. Estimating the channel may include generating an N×N channel correlation matrix, where N is a number of antenna elements in the antenna array. The implementations further include generating a set of dynamic beam weights to maximize a reference signal received power (RSRP) based on the estimated channel. The set of dynamic beam weights may be based on an eigenvector of the channel correlation matrix. Additionally, the implementations further include applying the set of dynamic beam weights to an antenna array.

Sensing based dynamic beams

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. The method may include a user equipment (UE) identifying a priority scheme for a set of signals including a first set of synchronization signal block (SSB) signals associated with a first frequency range, a second set of SSB signals associated with a second frequency range, and a paging signal associated with the first frequency range. The UE may then monitor, via a narrowband processor of the UE and based on the priority scheme, a set of time resources for one or more of the first set of SSB signals, the second set of SSB signals, or the paging signal. The narrowband processor may be configured to process signals received via the first frequency range and the second frequency range.

Techniques for measuring multiple signal types using a single narrowband processor

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may measure a reference signal over a first subset of a set of measurement occasions using a serving UE receive beam according to a serving beam measurement periodicity. The UE may measure the reference signal over a second subset of the set of measurement occasions using a first subset of candidate UE receive beams of a set of candidate UE receive beams. The UE may measure the reference signal over a third subset of the set of measurement occasions using a second subset of candidate UE receive beams of the set of candidate UE receive beams. The UE may perform beam switching to a candidate UE receive beam of the set of candidate UE receive beams based at least in part on a result of measuring the reference signal.

User receive beam measurement prioritization

An apparatus (e.g., a UE) may be configured to configure a plurality of orthogonal scrambling codes corresponding to a plurality of antenna panels of the UE and perform, for a first SSB transmission, a beam sweeping operation over a set of first beams for each antenna panel in the plurality of antenna panels, where, for a transmitted first signal in each symbol of the first SSB transmission, each antenna panel in the plurality of antenna panels receives the transmitted first signal via a beam in the set of first beams using an orthogonal scrambling code in the plurality of orthogonal scrambling codes corresponding to the antenna panel.

User equipment beam sweeping for millimeter wave

Wireless communications systems and methods related to monitoring and/or measuring synchronization signal blocks (SSBs) in one or more beam directions based on timing offsets associated with the beam directions are provided. In some aspects, a method of wireless communication performed by a user equipment (UE) includes: receiving, from a wireless communication device, a synchronization signal block (SSB); and measuring, based on timing offsets for each of a plurality of beams of the SSB, one or multiple beams of the SSB. In some instances, the UE determines a number of beams of the SSB to measure based on the timing offsets for each of the plurality of beams of the SSB.

Timing-aware scheduling

A method of wireless communication by a user equipment (UE) includes determining a first synchronization signal block (SSB) to monitor beam management. The first SSB comprises a primary synchronization signal (PSS), multiple physical broadcast channels (PBCHs), and a secondary synchronization signal (SSS). The method also includes determining a list of receive beams for measuring the first SSB. The method further includes measuring the first SSB by measuring the PSS with a first beam from the list of receive beams, measuring, with a second beam from the list of receive beams, a first demodulation reference signal (DMRS) on a first PBCH symbol of a first of the PBCHs, measuring the SSS with a third beam from the list of receive beams; and measuring, with a fourth beam from the list of receive beams, a second DMRS on a second PBCH symbol of a second of the PBCHs.

Measuring primary synchronization signal (PSS) symbol to speed up user equipment (UE) beam refinement

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. The method includes receiving control signaling indicating for the UE to monitor a set of multiple synchronization signal blocks during a first transmission time interval, determining a priority order of the set of multiple synchronization signal blocks based on a number of beam switch events that occur during the first transmission time interval exceeding a beam switch capability limit of the UE, performing a set of multiple beam measurements of at least a subset of the set of multiple synchronization signal blocks that occur during the first transmission time interval according to the priority order of the set of multiple synchronization signal blocks, and transmitting a beam report to a base station based on the set of multiple beam measurements.

Synchronization signal block prioritization for physical broadcast channel based beam measurements

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In a wireless communications system, a user equipment (UE) may receive, from a base station, an indication of a set of component carriers (CCs) for the UE and a respective frequency range (FR) for each CC of the set of CCs. Each CC-FR pairing may be associated with a respective priority of a set of priorities. The UE may initiate a plurality of timers, where each timer of the plurality of timers may correspond to a respective CC-FR pairing. After expiration of a timer of the plurality of timers, the UE may measure one or more reference signals of a subset of the set of CCs based at least in part on a capability of the UE and a priority of the respective CC-FR pairing associated with the timer.

Techniques for parallel search and measurement in wireless communications

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may be configured with one or more parameters to support blockage detection for beamformed communication. The UE may receive a set of reference signals via a receive beam of a beam pair. The UE may detect a condition associated with a measured signal quality of a reference signal of the set of reference signals relative to a filtered signal quality of the set of reference signals. The condition may, in some examples, correspond to a drop of the measured signal quality at least a threshold amount below the filtered signal quality for at least a threshold duration of time. The UE may delete one or more signal quality values from a measurement database of the UE based on detecting the condition. The one or more signal quality values may be associated with the beam pair.

Blockage detection for wireless communications

Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, a non-linear energy detector that obtains baseband information from a mixed signal that corresponds to an information component of a received radio frequency (RF) signal, wherein the mixed signal comprises a local oscillator signal combined, without multiplication, with the received RF signal, wherein the received RF signal comprises a carrier wave component operating at a carrier frequency within a millimeter wave spectrum, wherein the non-linear energy detector is associated with a non-linear current-voltage (I-V) characteristic curve, and wherein the baseband information is obtained by applying the mixed signal to the non-linear I-V characteristic curve. Other embodiments are disclosed.
