A plurality of projections are formed on one of a pair of substrates in a manner to surround a display area, thereafter a mask for shielding the outside of the display area on the substrate is placed such that the mask is in contact with the projections, and a deposition film is deposited within the display area with the mask being placed. After the mask is removed, a sealing material is placed in a region where the projections are formed. Then, another substrate of the pair of substrates is placed opposed to the one substrate having the projections formed thereon.

Method of manufacturing liquid crystal panel

A liquid crystal display device comprising: a first substrate () made of a transparent material, provided with signal electrodes and/or display electrodes () formed on one face thereof; a second substrate () made of a transparent material, provided with opposed electrodes () formed thereon; and liquid crystal sealed in-between the first substrate () and the second substrate () oppositely disposed opposite to each other with a predetermined gap interposed therebetween such that each of the signal electrodes or the display electrodes () face each of the opposed electrodes () so as to form a pixel. Further, a white diffusing film () and a reflector () are disposed in that order from of the first substrate () side on the second substrate (). The white diffusing film () having the characteristics of allowing circularly polarized light to pass therethrough substantially as the circularly polarized light, and having a substantially equal transmittance for light components at respective wavelengths in the wavelength range of visible light, effecting improving whiteness of a reflection-type liquid crystal display device.

Liquid crystal display device

A liquid-crystal optical element comprises a plurality of wiring electrodes formed between a plurality of segment electrodes and a lower transparent substrate and connected electrically to the segment electrodes, individually, and a plurality of contact electrodes connected to the segment electrodes and the corresponding wiring electrodes. The adjacent segment electrodes are different in height position above the lower transparent substrate. A contact electrode that is connected to that one of each two adjacent segment electrodes which is situated on the side of a liquid crystal layer is connected to the destination segment electrode inside its edge, when viewed along a section formed by cutting the segment electrode in the direction perpendicular to the planes of the lower and an upper transparent substrate.

A partial polarization member is provided on a second substrate. The partial polarization member is provided corresponding to an aperture of a reflection film, and is not provided in other areas that overlap with reflectors of a reflection film. Therefore, light that is incident from a backlight is reflected by the reflection film and returns to the backlight, without generating loss due to absorption or the like. The light that returns to the backlight is reflected by a backlight reflection film of the backlight, and is output to the aperture of the reflection film.

A liquid crystal display panel includes a moving image display area in which the pixel portions are arranged in a matrix shape and a pictograph display area in which the pixel portions are formed in a fixed pictograph shape. Moreover, first protective elements are inserted between the respective pixel portions in the moving image display area and a drive circuit for the pixel portions and are arranged in an outer periphery of the moving image display area.
