To prevent the spread of hospital-acquired infections, embodiments described herein monitor mobile device usage in clinical settings (by a physician, nurse, etc.) to characterize potential pathogenic contamination of the mobile device, the user's hands, and the surfaces in contact with the device. Our method considers the physical properties of how the device is handled and held during use, as well as the location and setting before, during, and after use to estimate potential contamination and transmission of pathogens. A system can use the estimation, along with knowledge (e.g., of the user's upcoming schedule) to alert them of potential contamination hazards and suggest when to avoid mobile device use as well as when to sanitize the device and user's hands.

A method of managing a low-power wide area blockchain network having multifunction printers (MFPs) as nodes in a radio frequency (RF) mesh is provided. The method includes configuring the RF mesh based on MFP characteristics including RF reception, compute, storage and uplink, for each of the MFPs. The method also includes operating the RF mesh to dynamically determine a role of the MFPs based on the MFP characteristics, current power save and processing state, for each of the MFPs and its neighboring MFPs, based on a function that minimizes delay, balances load and/or transitions MFPs between a sleep mode and a wake mode.

Example embodiments described herein are directed to utilizing image matching technology to allow people to use their mobile device to setup scan workflows (or 'Scan Flows') in advance of a future scanning operation. Using an application on a mobile device, the user takes a photo of the first page of a document that he/she will scan at some later time and associates the image of the document with a simple workflow (e.g., where to store the document once the document has been scanned). Additional workflow actions may include automatic document sharing and notification, automatic document segmentation, and automatic document cropping.
