An ink jet recording apparatus includes a cap, a control unit, and a recording unit having nozzle arrays each including a plurality of nozzles for ejecting ink in an image recording operation. The cap receives ink preliminarily ejected from the recording unit. The control unit controls an ejection operation to eject ink in response to receiving a recording command to cause an amount of ink ejected from a first nozzle group in a first preliminary ejection executed prior to the recording operation of the image to be smaller than an amount of ink ejected from a second nozzle group different from the first nozzle group in a second preliminary ejection executed prior to the recording operation of the image in a case where the recording command includes an instruction for recording the image by using the second nozzle group without using the first nozzle group among the plurality of nozzles.

A recording apparatus includes an ink tank, a carriage, a recording head mounted on the carriage, a carriage control unit, and a supply tube connected to the recording head and the ink tank and including a bent portion that moves with carriage movement. Assuming that, of an acceleration/deceleration area of a carriage moving area, an area in which pressure changes to decrease negative pressure in the recording head is a first area, and an area in which the pressure changes to increase the negative pressure in the recording head is a second area, the carriage control unit moves the carriage so that an absolute value of acceleration or deceleration of the carriage in the first area is less than an absolute value of acceleration or deceleration of the carriage in the second area.

An image recording method includes a reaction liquid applying step; a first liquid composition applying step; an ink applying step of applying an ink containing a second water-soluble resin so as to at least partly overlap with an area where the first liquid composition is applied on an intermediate transfer member to form an intermediate image; and a step of transferring the intermediate image to a recording medium by bringing the intermediate image into contact with the recording medium to separate the intermediate image from the intermediate transfer member. The temperatures Tc, Tof the intermediate image and intermediate transfer member from start of the contact to the separation are adjusted to be not less than the glass transition temperature Tgs of the second water-soluble resin. The temperatures Tr, Tof the intermediate image and recording medium at the separation are adjusted to be less than Tgs.

An ink jet recording method in which an image is formed by applying onto a recording medium a reaction liquid, an aqueous pigment ink containing an anionic polymer aggregatable by the reaction liquid and a resin-containing aqueous liquid containing an anionic polymer aggregatable by the reaction liquid to form an image, the method including the steps of applying the reaction liquid to the recording medium; applying the aqueous pigment ink to a surface of the recording medium to which the reaction liquid is applied by an ink jet method to form an image; and applying the resin-containing aqueous liquid to the image formed on the recording medium by the ink jet method. The surface tension of the resin-containing aqueous liquid is higher than the surface tension of the aqueous pigment ink.

An ink jet recording method of transferring onto a recording medium an intermediate image formed on an intermediate transfer member by an ink jet technique to record an image on the recording medium, the method including a pretreatment agent applying step of applying a pretreatment agent onto an intermediate transfer member; an ink applying step of applying an ink by an ink jet technique onto a region of the intermediate transfer member onto which the pretreatment agent is applied, thereby forming an intermediate image; a transfer step of transferring the intermediate image formed on the intermediate transfer member onto a recording medium; and a selection controlling step of controlling selection of execution or non-execution of at least one of the pretreatment agent applying step and the transfer step, based on an amount of the ink applied onto the intermediate transfer member.

A recording apparatus includes a processing unit configured to convert acquired image information into dot data, and an image forming unit configured to form an image on a recording medium based on the image information converted into dot data by the processing unit, wherein the processing unit enlarges an image of the acquired image information to a size protruding into margins formed at both side ends of the recording medium, then converts the image information into dot data, and then, based on side end position information of the recording medium detected by the detection unit, processes the image information converted into dot data so that image formation is not performed on portions of the enlarged image protruding into the margins.
