A design support system for supporting a design of an electronic device having an input device through which an input is made by utilizing elasticity is provided. The system includes a simulation unit for executing structural simulation of an input device based on structural data of the electronic device including the input device. The support system can include a re-design determining unit for notifying a need for re-design to a designer based on reactive characteristic data of the input device output from the simulation unit. The support system can include an examining unit for examining the reactive characteristic data, and a selecting unit for selecting another input device to replace the current input device.

An analyzing model creating apparatus obtains a three-dimensional analyzing model (3D mode) of an analyzing target and regions of the 3D model, obtains a reference point on an impact surface from a normal vector of the impact surface represented by a unit vector and minimum and maximum values of each coordinate obtained from the regions of the 3D model to generate the impact surface having an impact attitude of the 3D model with respect to the impact surface defined by an arbitrary rotary position of the impact surface. The apparatus further generates an analysis input file which includes information related to the 3D model, the impact surface and an impact velocity with which the 3D model and the impact surface collide, and analyzes a strength of the 3D model based on the analysis input file.

A simple analysis model for an elastomeric material member with a strong nonlinearity is created, that is, for a rubber member gripped between a first member and a second member, first shell elements are created for the contact surface of the rubber member contacting the first member, second shell elements are created for the contact surface of the rubber member contacting the second member, and spring elements are created between specific nodes of the first and second shell elements. The spring constant of the created spring elements is identified by data of material tests.

An analyzing model creating apparatus includes an interval acquiring part to acquire intervals of a plurality of parts that are mounted on a PCB for an electronic equipment, from design data of the PCB, a comparing part to compare a minimum part interval between the parts and a first mesh size which is preset, and a computing part to compute a value which is &#xbd; the minimum part interval between the parts as a second mesh size if the minimum part interval between the parts is less than 2 times the first mesh size. A generating part is provided to generate an analyzing model of the printed circuit board based on the second mesh size.

An element grouping method for Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis is implemented in a computer to group elements forming an analyzing mode. The method automatically obtains nodes of specific elements having a common parameter from the elements forming the analyzing model which is an analyzing target, and automatically groups nodes having a referring number which is a predetermined value or less. The specific elements belonging to the grouped nodes are automatically grouped as edge elements. A check is made to determine whether or not all specific elements in an edge portion of the analyzing model are grouped as the edge elements. Specific elements, other than the specific elements in the edge portion which are grouped as the edge elements, are automatically grouped as the in-plane elements.

The present invention has been made to provide a technique capable of contributing to a reduction in operational burden on workers and an increase in operating accuracy in a generation process of a mesh for numerical analysis for a geometric model. A numerical analysis mesh generation apparatus generates a mesh for use in performing numerical analysis for a geometric model to be analyzed. The apparatus comprises: a reference surface selection section that selects one surface from a plurality of surfaces constituting the geometric model as a reference surface; an edge projection section that projects, in a predetermined direction, edges of the geometric model located in a predetermined direction away from the reference surface selected by the reference surface selection section on the reference surface; an interval determination section that determines an interval between edges projected on the reference surface by the edge projection section; a grouping section that groups two or more edges with one of the two or more edges set as a representative edge when the interval determination section determines that the interval between them is smaller than a predetermined interval; and a mesh generation section that generates a mesh for the reference surface based on a surface divided using the edges grouped by the grouping section.

A method of evaluating configuration of solder external terminals of a BGA-type tape-based semiconductor device mounted on a board such that the external terminals are joined to lands provided on the mounting board is provided. The method includes the step of obtaining geometric data related to opening of a tape substrate of the semiconductor device, solder balls to be placed at positions corresponding to the openings, and the lands of the mounting board and the step of deribing configuration of the solder external terminal based on the geometric date. The method further includes the step of calculating the volume of voids to be produced in the external terminals, so as to compensate for the geometric data related to the tape substrate.
