An imager () which may comprise a body () and an image sensor () housed within the body wherein the body may be releasably operably coupleable to a module (), the module having an optical aperture () extending therethrough that aligns with the image sensor when operably coupled to the body to form an imaging channel wherein the sensor is operable to image a subject within an optical axis X of the imaging channel.

An ophthalmic camera () comprising a camera () having a lens () aligned with a second lens () and at least one illumination means (). The illumination means () is capable of movement relative to the camera lens () so that the beam of light emitted by the illumination means () is able to be focused by the second lens () through the pupil onto the fundus. In another embodiment, the ophthalmic camera comprises a camera (), an illumination means () and a beamsplitter (). The camera () and the beamsplitter () from an alignment axis X and the illumination means () together with the beam splitter () form an illumination axis Y perpendicular to the alignment axis X. The illumination means () is capable of movement relative to the illumination axis Y so that the beam of light reflected by the beamsplitter () towards the pupil () is substantially the same size as the pupil () to maximize the amount of light entering the pupil without impinging upon the iris to avoid contracting of the pupil ().

Opthalmic camera and opthalmic camera adaptor

Provided is a multi-purpose imaging apparatus () comprising a body () and imaging means () housed within the body (). The body () is adapted to releasably engage an adaptor (). The adaptor () has an aperture () extending therethrough that aligns with the optical axis (X) of the imaging means () when so engaged, such that at least a portion of the optical axis (X) is not obscured. The adaptor () also has optics for illuminating a subject within the optical axis (X) for diagnostic purposes.

The centres of the ophthalmic lens and camera lens are aligned to form an alignment axis. The at least one illumination means is capable of linear movement along a radial axis of the camera lens and pivotal movement about the radial plane incorporating radial axis and alignment axis. In such a manner, the circle of light emitted by the at least one illumination means is constantly directed to the centre of the ophthalmic lens.

A portable slit-lamp apparatus, including a body () able to be held in the hand of an operator and a solid state lamp means () and associated optics () carried by the body for generating a narrow beam of light and projecting the beam onto the cornea of a patient s eye for reflection by structures of the eye, when the body is held at a suitable position in front of the eye. Means () is mounted in cooperation with the body and the solid state lamp means to detect a reflection of the narrow beam of light by structures of the eye and to make an image thereof, which image is, or is processable to provide, a digital record of the reflection.
