According to one embodiment, a magnetic disk device includes a read control system that extracts scrambled data from media data read from a medium and inspection data associated with a seed value at the time of write, generates inspection data for data extracted from the media data, obtains from the inspection data and inspection data extracted from the media data, a seed value associated with both, compares this seed value with the seed value expected by the controller, and evaluates, when the comparison result is a mismatch, the data as an error, whereas when match, descrambles the data extracted from the media data using the seed value.

Magnetic disk device

A magnetic disk device includes a disk including a plurality of error sectors including a defect, a first track having a first parity sector, and a controller. The controller is configured to, upon receiving a write command to write first data in a first region of a portion of the first track, which is a portion of the first track, first perform an XOR operation on all sectors of the first track other than one or more sectors of the first region and the first parity sector of the first track, and then write the first data in the one or more sectors of the first region, perform a second XOR operation on the one or more sectors of the first region and the result of the first XOR operation, and write the result of the second XOR operation in the first parity sector.

According to one embodiment, a magnetic disk device includes a disk, a head writing data to the disk and reading data from the disk, and a controller managing a key generation of a cryptographic key, based on generation confirmation information which is generated by the cryptographic key managed by an external device and transferred from the external device, and which is unable to generate the cryptographic key.

According to an embodiment, each of a plurality of controller chips included in a magnetic disk device includes a buffer control circuit and an arbitration circuit, and controls a corresponding one of a plurality of actuator systems. The first controller chip is connected to a buffer memory via the buffer control circuit included in the first controller chip, and is connected to the second controller chip. The second controller chip is connected to the first controller chip and the third controller chip. The arbitration circuit included in the second controller chip performs arbitration between data transfer between the third controller chip and the first controller chip and data transfer between the first controller chip and an actuator system controlled by the second controller chip among the plurality of actuator systems.

A disk device includes a volatile memory, a nonvolatile memory, and a controller. The controller is configured to receive, from a host, a key setting request that includes a cryptographic key, a key ID thereof, and tag information of the cryptographic key and generate generation information of the cryptographic key. The controller is also configured to store a first entry including the tag information, the cryptographic key, and the generation information associated with each other in the volatile memory, and store a second entry including the key ID and the generation information associated with each other in the nonvolatile memory.

A magnetic disk device includes a magnetic disk including a track having a plurality of sectors, a motor configured to rotate the magnetic disk, a magnetic head, and a controller. The controller is configured to perform a first read operation of reading target sectors among the sectors of the track, with the magnetic head during a first revolution of the magnetic disk, detect an off-track state of the magnetic head during the first revolution of the magnetic disk, perform a first error correction with respect to data read from the target sectors during the first read operation, and perform a second read operation of selectively reading a part of the target sectors for which the off-track state has been detected or the first error correction is unsuccessful, with the magnetic head during a second revolution of the magnetic disk.

Magnetic disk device and method

A hard disk device accepts logical block addresses (LBAs) from a host. The hard disk device includes a disk having a plurality of physical sectors from which data is read and to which data is written, and a processor configured to perform read and write operations on the disk in response to read and write commands from the host that designate LBAs. The processor, in response to a request for initialization, does not perform any write operations on the disk, and generates a new mapping of LBAs to the physical sectors for a current generation based on unusable sectors detected during a previous generation, and tracks differences in correspondence between LBAs and the physical sectors between the current generation and the previous generation.

Hard disk device and method of controlling the same

A magnetic disk device includes a plurality of tracks and a controller. The controller receives write data to be written to a first sector of a track, generates a first data string based on the write data and a logical identifier for the first sector, attempts to cause the first data string to be written to the first sector, determines whether a write error has occurred while the first data string is written to the first sector, generates a second data string based at least in part on the first data string, and in response to determining that no write error has occurred while the first data string is written to the first sector, writes a parity data string that is based at least in part on the second data string to a second sector of the track that stores parity data for the track.

A disk device includes a recording medium on which data is recorded, a decoding circuit configured to decode data read from the recording medium, and a control circuit. The control circuit is configured to cause first data associated with a target sector referenced in a read request to be read from a target track of the recording medium, second data associated with a non-target sector that is not referenced in the read request to be read from the recording medium after the first data is read from the recording medium, and decoding of the first data to be completed by the decoding circuit after the second data is read from the recording medium.

Disk device, controller circuit, and control method

According to one embodiment, a magnetic disk device includes a read and write channel transfers data to/from a magnetic disk; a data processor cancels an inter-track interference in data read; an encryption decode processor which is provided in common through a write data path and a read data path in the read and write channel and executes an encryption processing and a decode processing for the data to be transferred to/from the magnetic disk; and an encryption decode processing bypass module bypasses the encryption processing or the decode processing through the encryption decode processor in a cancellation of the inter-track interference in the data processor.

According to one embodiment, there is provided an information storage apparatus, including: a plurality of nonvolatile memories configured to store encryption information so that the stored encryption information are read out therefrom; a plurality of encryption processing modules provided correspondingly with the respective memories, and configured to encrypt the information to be stored in the memories and to decrypt the encryption information read out from the memories; and a storage processing module configured to collectively store a plurality of key information that are utilized when the encryption processing modules encrypt the information to be stored or decrypt the encryption information read out.
