A method and device for tracking objects by surgical navigation systems. The method includes: capturing an image of the tracked object; determining whether a unique identifiable feature associated with at least one totem pattern is discernible in the image; when the unique identifiable feature is discernible: determining a position or an orientation of the tracked object based on the at least one totem pattern; and registering the at least one totem pattern in the surgical coordinate space; and when the unique identifiable feature is indiscernible: determining a position of each totem pattern relative to other totem patterns such that a combination of totem patterns within the captured image is a marker group detectable as a composite totem pattern; determining a position or an orientation of the tracked object based on the composite totem pattern associated with the tracked object; and registering the composite totem pattern in the surgical coordinate space.

Methods and devices for tracking objects by surgical navigation systems

A flexible high-resolution endoscope apparatus and methods involving a plurality of optical fiber bundles; a plurality of lenses in a one-to-one correspondence with the plurality of optical fiber bundles, each lens of the plurality of lenses comprising a distinct depth of field and a distinct angle of view in relation to another lens of the plurality of lenses; and a plurality of cameras in a one-to-one correspondence with the plurality of optical fiber bundles.

Flexible high resolution endoscope

A surgical imaging system is described. The system includes first and second optical assemblies. Each optical assembly defines a respective optical axis, and each includes a respective set of one or more optics for adjusting field-of-view (FOV) and focus and a respective camera for capturing an image. The system includes a controller for controlling the optical assemblies and for switching the surgical imaging system between a coupled configuration and an uncoupled configuration. In the coupled configuration, the first optical assemblies are controlled to adjust the respective sets of optics and/or the respective optical axes in dependence on each other. In the uncoupled configuration, the optical assemblies are controlled to adjust the respective sets of optics, and the respective optical axes independently of each other.

Dual zoom and dual field-of-view microscope

Methods and systems for providing feedback during a medical procedure. The 3D position and orientation of a tracked tool are determined, relative to a site of the medical procedure, based on tracking information received from a tracking system. The 3D position and orientation are mapped to a common coordinate space, to determine the 3D position and orientation relative to a field-of-view (FOV) of an optical camera that is capturing an optical image of the site. Navigational information associated with the 3D position and orientation is determined. A virtual representation of the navigational information overlaid on the FOV and displayed. The displayed virtual representation is updated when the 3D position and orientation of the tracked tool changes or when the FOV changes, in accordance with the change.

Methods and systems for providing visuospatial information

Given a specific imaging device and systems further described herein, wound characteristics of a wound fluoresce with a unique spectral signature when subjected to excitation light with a known wavelength or range of wavelengths. Images captured therefrom are subject to analyses of pixels thereof, with a plurality of training images having known wound sizes and characteristics marked-up thereon being used to generate training data, which is subsequently used to identify wound characteristics from test images in real time. Wound sizes, boundaries, bacterial presence, and other characteristics may be quantified and graphically represented as an overlay on the original wound image along with documentation related to the wound.

Wound imaging and analysis

Methods and systems for outputting depth data during a medical procedure on a patient. Depth data is outputted, representing at least one of relative depth data and general depth data. Tracking information about the position and orientation of a medical instrument and depth information about variations in depth over a site of interest are used. Relative depth data represents the depth information relative to the position and orientation of the instrument. General depth data represents the depth information over the site of interest independently of the position and orientation of the instrument.

Methods and systems for providing depth information

An optical imaging system for imaging a target during a medical procedure, the imaging system involving an optical assembly having moveable zoom optics and moveable focus optics, a zoom actuator and a focus actuator for positioning the zoom and focus optics, respectively, a controller for controlling the zoom and focus actuators independently in response to received control input, a camera for capturing an image of the target from the optical assembly, the system capable of performing autofocus during a medical procedure.

Motorized full field adaptive microscope

Methods and systems for providing feedback during a medical procedure are provided. A saved optical image of a field of view (FOV) of a site of the medical procedure is obtained along with a live optical image of the FOV of the site during the medical procedure. Navigational information relative to the site of the medical procedure is determined. The navigational information is then mapped to a common coordinate space, to determine the navigational information relative to the FOV of the saved and live optical images of the surgical site. Virtual representations of the navigational information is overlaid on the saved and/or live optical images and displayed on at least one display.

Methods and systems for providing visuospatial information and representations

A flexible high resolution endoscope is provided herein. The endoscope comprises: a plurality of optical fiber bundles; a plurality of lenses in a one-to-one relationship with the plurality of optical fiber bundles; and, a plurality of cameras in a one-to-one relationship with the plurality of optical fiber bundles, each respective optical fiber bundle, of the plurality of optical fiber bundles, having a respective lens, of the plurality of lenses, located at a respective distal end, and a camera, of the plurality of cameras, located at a respective proximal end, the plurality of optical fiber bundles being coupled together at a common distal end, and otherwise being uncoupled from one another, a bending radius of the endoscope defined by a largest respective bending radius of each of the plurality of optical fiber bundles.

An optical imaging system for imaging a target during a medical procedure. The imaging system includes an optical assembly including moveable zoom optics and moveable focus optics. A method for calibrating an optical axis of a camera mounted to a movable structure is disclosed. The method includes: for each of two or more standoff distances for the camera: capture, using the camera, image data of a target marker while the movable structure is undergoing rotation about a fixed axis, the target marker being a grid of squares each including unique detectable features; determine a respective center of rotation based on the captured image data; determine a first axis which goes through the centers of rotation; and determine a transform between the first axis and a second axis through the center of output image of the camera.
