Controllers for controlling hybrid motor drive circuits configured to drive a motor are provided herein. A controller is configured to drive the motor using an inverter when a motor commanded frequency is not within a predetermined range of line input power frequencies, and couple line input power to an output of the inverter using a first switch device when the motor commanded frequency is within the predetermined range of line input power frequencies.

Hybrid drive circuit for variable speed induction motor system and methods of control

A lamination for use in an electric machine stator includes a body having a generally circular outer periphery and a generally circular inner periphery, spaced from the outer periphery and a plurality of spaced apart teeth extending inwardly from the circular inner periphery. Each of said teeth define opposed inner edges thereof. The lamination includes a first pair of tips extending tangentially in opposed directions from the inner edge of one of said teeth and a second pair of tips extending tangentially in opposed directions from the inner edges of another one of said teeth. A tip of the first pair of tips and a tip of the second pair of tips define a first configuration having a first gap therebetween and defining a second configuration having a second gap therebetween. The first gap being substantially less than the second gap.

A converter module for converting three-phase electrical power to single-phase electrical power. The converter module includes three-phase terminals and a full-wave bridge rectifier. The three-phase terminals are configured to be electrically coupled to a three-phase power source from which a three-phase power signal is provided. The full-wave bridge rectifier is electrically coupled to the three-phase terminals and configured to rectify the three-phase power signal to a direct current (DC) power signal.

A motor includes a stator comprising windings configured to be energized, and a rotor electromagnetically coupled to the stator and configured to turn relative thereto when the stator is energized. The motor also includes a motor controller configured to measure a speed at which the rotor turns, and energize said stator to generate a first torque output at the rotor when the measured speed is below a first threshold. The motor controller is also configured to energize the stator to generate a second torque output at the rotor when the measured speed is at least the first threshold, wherein the second torque output is greater than the first torque output.

An electric motor assembly includes an electric motor, a casing configured to house the motor, and an electrical enclosure coupled to the motor casing. The electrical enclosure houses a control board including a microcontroller and a memory device therein. The microcontroller is configured to control the electric motor based at least in part on motor configuration data stored in the memory device. The assembly also includes a near field communications (NFC) antenna positioned adjacent to an opening defined in the motor casing or the electronics enclosure, and is communicatively coupled to the memory device. The NFC antenna is configured to: receive a radio signal transmitted by an external programming device, the radio signal including updated motor configuration data; convert the radio signal to an electrical signal that includes the updated motor configuration data; and transmit the electrical signal to the memory device to store the updated motor configuration data.

An electric machine includes a motor having a motor chassis having a first and second end, a stator assembly, and a rotor assembly. The electric machine includes a motor control assembly having a circuit board. The motor control assembly is attached to the stator assembly of the motor. A first end shield is attached to the first end of the motor chassis. The first end shield includes a first opening that is configured to enable a cooling air stream to pass therethrough to cool the motor and the motor control assembly.

A method for protecting a motor controller from a transient voltage includes providing an electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter having at least a first input terminal, a second input terminal, a first output terminal, and a second output terminal, the EMI filter configured to suppress electromagnetic interference. The method also includes coupling a first voltage clamping device and a second voltage clamping device in series between the first output terminal and the second output terminal. The method also includes coupling a spark gap device to a ground conductor and to a shared node between the first voltage clamping device and the second voltage clamping device.

A method for providing a compatible interface between a motor control circuit and a system controller is described. The method includes determining which signals in the interface have incompatible voltage requirements, and inserting a series resistance in an interface extending between the motor control circuit and the system controller for each signal determined to have incompatible voltage requirements therebetween.

Methods and apparatus for providing motor control signals

An electric motor includes a motor enclosure, a motor-bearing assembly, a motor control unit, a mid shield, and a bearing. The motor-bearing assembly is configured for placement within the motor enclosure and has a shaft extending therefrom. A portion of the motor control unit is configured for placement within the motor enclosure. The mid shield is configured for placement within the motor enclosure between the motor control unit and the motor-bearing assembly and further configured to engage the shaft. The bearing is configured to seat within the mid shield and provide at least a portion of the engagement between the shaft and the mid shield.
