A method for reducing particulates within a disk drive may comprise providing a first component of a disk drive that is to be coupled to a second component of the disk drive by a fastener. The first component may define an aperture extending, along a central axis, through the first component. The aperture may comprise a channel, angularly-disposed relative to the central axis, that extends through the first component and has a greater cross-sectional dimension than the greatest cross-sectional dimension of the fastener. The first component may then be secured to the second component by advancing the fastener through the aperture and into the second component. Air may be drawn from within the aperture and/or from between the first and second components through the channel.

Embodiments described herein relate to a disk drive coupler for reducing particulates in a disk drive. In some embodiments, the disk drive includes a first component having a top surface and a bottom surface, the first component defining an aperture with an interior surface between the top surface and the bottom surface, and a channel on at least one of the top surface, the bottom surface, and the interior surface. In some embodiments, the disk drive coupler includes a fastener configured to be received within the aperture and is configured to secure the first component to a second component. The channel is configured to permit the drawing of air from at least one of the aperture, the top surface, and the bottom surface of the first component before and after the fastener secures the first component to the second component.

A disk drive includes a base, a disk, an actuator with a coil having first and second legs, and a magnetic element support. The support includes a first plate section including a first support portion and a first extension portion. The support includes a second plate section including a second support portion and a second extension portion. The second extension portion is cooperatively formed with the first extension portion to receive the first leg with the second leg between the first and second extension portions. The magnetic element support further includes a transition section between the first and second plate sections. A primary magnetic flux path extends through the first support portion, the transition section, the second support portion, and the first leg. A secondary magnetic flux path extends through the second support portion, the second extension portion, the second leg, the first extension portion, and the first support portion.

A disk drive includes a base, a disk rotatably coupled to the base, and a rotary actuator coupled to the base adjacent the disk. The rotary actuator is configured to pivot about an axis of rotation, and includes a coil. The disk drive further includes a magnetic element support coupled to the base. The magnetic element support includes first and second plate sections cooperatively formed to receive the coil. The magnetic element support includes a first transition section formed between the plate sections for forming a first magnetic flux path. The first transition section disposed angularly lateral with respect to the coil and the axis of rotation. The magnetic element support includes a second transition section formed between the plate sections for forming a second magnetic flux path. The second transition section being disposed radially beyond the coil with respect to the axis of rotation.

A method of assembly of a disk drive including providing a disk drive base. The method further includes providing a first VCM plate with an attached first magnet. The method further includes applying a holding force against the first VCM plate for holding the first VCM plate against the disk drive base. The method further includes providing a second VCM plate with an attached second magnet. The first and second VCM plates being cooperatively formed to engage each other with the first and second magnets facing towards each other with a magnetic attractive force. The method further includes engaging the second VCM plate with the first VCM plate while maintaining the holding force against the first VCM plate greater than the magnetic attractive force between the first and second magnets.

The first stamped actuator arm may include a first arm portion, a first body portion and a coil-supporting portion for supporting a coil of a VCM. The second stamped actuator arm may include a second arm portion and a second body portion, the second body portion defining a second contact surface. According to one embodiment, the first and second stamped actuator arms may be attached to one another such that the first contact surface faces and contacts the second contact surface.

An actuator arm assembly for a disk drive includes first and second stamped actuator arms including first and second arm portions, first and second body portions defining first and second body surfaces, and first and second coil-supporting arm portions defining first and second pairs of coil supporting arms for supporting a coil portion of a voice coil motor.
