Embodiments of the present disclosure describe devices, methods, computer-readable media and systems configurations for management and/or support of multimedia broadcast multicast service (MBMS) service in a wireless communications network. An evolved Node B (eNB) may transmit MBMS assistance information to a user equipment (UE). The MBMS assistance information may identify a carrier by which one or more upcoming MBMS services are to be provided and an indicator of a carrier selection mode to be used by the UE. The UE may transmit an MBMS interest indication message including information related to one or more targeted MBMS services which the UE wants to receive.

The apparatus may also include a processor and a reply message assignment module operable on the processor to determine a downlink sub-frame in which the downlink transmission is received and to adjust timing of a reply/acknowledge message to be sent by the RF transceiver in response to the first message so as to coincide with a predetermined uplink sub-frame of a radio frame. Methods and system for communicating control information using carrier aggregation

Multicarrier techniques for wireless communications system are described. An apparatus may comprise a carrier management module to define a primary carrier for use by a multicarrier communications system to communicate control information, and a secondary carrier for use by the multicarrier communications system to communicate media information, with the secondary carrier having a communication parameter and technology that is potentially different from the primary carrier. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Multicarrier techniques for wireless systems

Technology for a user equipment (UE) to report periodic channel state information (CSI) is disclosed. The UE can generate a plurality of CSI reports for serving cells for transmission in a subframe. Each CSI report can correspond to a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) reporting type among a plurality of CSI processes having a CSI process index (CSIProcessIndex) and a serving cell index (ServCellIndex). The UE can determine different priorities corresponding to each of the plurality of PUCCH reporting types. The UE can drop CSI reports corresponding to all CSI processes except a CSI process having the lowest CSIProcessIndex. The UE can drop CSI reports corresponding to all ServCellIndexes except a CSI report with the lowest ServCellIndex. The UE can multiplex at least one non-colliding CSI report from among CSI reports that are not dropped and hybrid automatic repeat request-acknowledgement (HARQ-ACK) feedback bits for transmission to an eNodeB.

Methods, apparatuses, and systems are described related to interference averaging to generate feedback information and interference averaging to demodulate receives signals. In embodiments, an evolved Node B (eNB) may transmit interference averaging information to a user equipment (UE) including a time domain averaging indicator indicating a time domain averaging window to be used by the UE for averaging interference measurements in a time domain or a frequency domain averaging indicator to indicate a frequency domain averaging window to be used by the UE for averaging interference measurements in a frequency domain. Additionally, or alternatively, the eNB may transmit an interference resource group (IRG) indicator to the UE to indicate an IRG over which the UE is to perform interference averaging to facilitate demodulation of signals received by the UE from the eNB.

Interference averaging and interference resource groups in a wireless communication system

Briefly, in accordance with one or more embodiments, user equipment receives unicast services from a first carrier of a primary serving cell and determines if Multimedia Broadcast and Multicast services (MBMS) services are available on a second carrier based at least in part on information in a broadcast carrier channel that indicates the second carrier or an identification (ID) of the second carrier. If MBMS services are available on the second carrier, the user equipment at least temporarily switches to the second carrier to receive the MBMS services. The user equipment may provide feedback to the network or the primary serving cell when it starts and stops receiving MBMS services, and then may switch back to the primary serving cell when MBMS services have ended or the user equipment no longer desires to receive MBMS services.

Delivery of multicast and broadcast services concurrently with unicast data

Technology for performing multiple timing advances in a carrier aggregation communication system is disclosed. A method comprises communicating a random access preamble from a UE to an eNodeB via a PCell associated with a selected component carrier of the carrier aggregation. A Random Access Response (RAR) is received at the UE from the eNodeB for the PCell. The RAR contains a timing advance adjustment instructing the UE to adjust a timing of a PCell wireless communication. A request is received at the UE to adjust a timing of an SCell communication. A random access preamble is communicated to the UE via the SCell. An RAR is received at the UE from the eNodeB for the SCell to adjust a timing advance of the SCell wireless communication.

Performing multiple timing advance adjustments in a carrier aggregation communication system

A system and method for configuring component carriers in carrier aggregation is disclosed. The method comprises communicating a carrier aggregation capability for a selected UE to an enhanced Node B (eNode B) configured to provide service for a plurality of UEs. A plurality of component carriers at the eNode B can be configured for the selected UE based on the carrier aggregation capability of the selected UE. A component carrier configuration message is broadcast from the eNode B containing component carrier configuration information that is common to the plurality of UEs. Specific configuration information that is specific to the selected UE is communicated using dedicated communication signaling. Selected configured component carriers are then activated by the eNode B for the selected UE. Activation can be based on the UE's quality of service needs, bandwidth needs, and strength of signal for the component carriers.

Configuring component carriers in carrier aggregation

Disclosed embodiments may include an apparatus having one or more processors coupled to one or more computer-readable storage media. The one or more processors may be configured to transmit and/or receive channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) resource configuration information, demodulation reference signals (DM-RS), uplink sounding reference signals (SRS), and power control parameters to support uplink coordinated multi-point (CoMP) operations. System and method of managing wireless communications with multiple transmission points

Technology for an eNodeB operable to maintain timing advance groups (TAGs) is disclosed. The eNodeB can form a timing advance group (TAG) for one or more serving cells. The eNodeB can map each of the one or more serving cells to the TAG using signaling from the eNodeB. The eNodeB can assign a timing advance group identifier (TAG ID) to the one or more serving cells mapped to the TAG.

Forming carrier aggregation timing advance groups in a heterogeneous network

An eNodeB operable to maintain timing advance groups (TAGs) in a heterogeneous network (HetNet) is disclosed. The eNodeB can form a timing advance group (TAG) for one or more serving cells when a same timing advance applies to the one or more serving cells. The eNodeB can map each of the one or more serving cells to the TAG using radio resource control (RRC) signaling from the eNodeB. The eNodeB can assign a timing advance group identifier (TAG ID) to the one or more serving cells mapped to the TAG. A separate timing advance timer can be maintained at a user equipment (UE) for each TAG for a selected period of time.

Systems and methods for providing opportunistic carrier aggregation to short range or low power extension carriers are generally disclosed herein. One embodiment includes data traffic offload techniques to offload data communicated in a Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) from a primary cell to a secondary cell. For example, the primary cell may be provided by a LTE/LTE-A base station operating in licensed spectrum, and the secondary cell may be provided by a low-power extension carrier operating in unlicensed spectrum using a LTE/LTE-A standard. The low-power extension carrier may be activated as needed to offload data transfers from the primary cell, in download-only, upload-only, and time-division LTE (TD-LTE) modes. Configurations involving multimode base stations, multi mode user equipment (UE), relay extension carriers, and remote radio equipment are also described herein, in conjunction with deployment of opportunistic carrier aggregation using extension carriers.
