A method includes receiving metrics associated with traffic that complies with a grade of service (GOS) associated with a customer premises equipment (CPE) device, where the metrics identify a group of cells via which the traffic is received by the CPE device. The method also includes retrieving information associated with traffic conditions within a group of base stations; initiating a load balancing operation when traffic conditions within a base station indicate that a particular cell, associated with the base station, is congested; and sending, to a set of base stations that send traffic to the CPE device, a notification, where the notification causes traffic, not destined for the CPE device, to be rerouted to another base station, which enables the base station to send traffic, that complies with the GOS, to the CPE device, or causes the CPE device to receive traffic, that complies with the GOS, from a further based station.

Load balancing to provide a target grade of service (GOS)

A device receives an address from a computer terminal; determines a location associated with the address; and determines a current signal quality at the location by referencing a file that represents an area that includes the location. The device further determines whether the location qualifies for a fixed wireless service based on the current signal quality. The device also transmits information to the computer terminal. The information indicates whether the location qualifies for the fixed wireless service.

Qualifying locations for fixed wireless services

A network device within an outdoor broadband unit receives, via Ethernet over coaxial cable signals, Internet Protocol (IP) data traffic originating from a device within a local area network (LAN). The IP data traffic is buffered in a memory within the outdoor broadband unit. A forwarding plane module of the network device sends the IP data traffic toward a destination via an air interface for a wide area network (WAN). The network device receives, via different Ethernet over coaxial cable signals, IP control traffic originating from the device within the LAN. A control plane module of the network device implements the instructions in the IP control traffic to initiate a test function for the network device.

A device receives, from a content provider, traffic parameters associated with a video content request received from a fixed user device connected to a wireless access network, and determines, based on the traffic parameters, a trigger for creating a dedicated bearer for the fixed user device in the wireless access network. The device also provides the trigger to the wireless access network, where the wireless access network creates the dedicated bearer for the fixed user device based on the trigger, and the wireless access network assigns quality of service (QoS) parameters, based on the traffic parameters, to video content delivered to the fixed user device.

Video content delivery over wireless access networks with quality of service (QOS) guarantees

A system may include a plurality of wireless devices, each wireless device including a time source and configured to selectively communicate with at least one other of the plurality of wireless devices by way of a packet-based time precision protocol. The plurality of wireless devices may include a first wireless device and a second wireless device, the first wireless device being configured to determine whether the first wireless device and the second wireless device are in selective communication over a single-hop wireless link; determine a one-way delay over the single-hop wireless link by way of at least one packed-based time precision protocol message; and calculate a distance measurement between the first wireless device and the second wireless device based at least in part on the one-way delay.

Packet based location provisioning in wireless networks

A method implemented by an outdoor broadband unit includes receiving, by a broadband home router within the outdoor broadband unit, a request for services associated with a wide area network (WAN), the request originating from a device within a local area network (LAN) associated with the broadband home router; generating, by the broadband home router and based on the request, an attention (AT) command to a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) module, within the outdoor broadband unit, the LTE module providing an air interface for the WAN; executing, by the LTE module, the AT command; receiving, by the broadband home router and from the LTE module, a return value based on the executed AT command; and sending, by the broadband home router and to the device within the LAN, a response to the request based on the return value.

A device is configured to receive a request, from a user device, to connect to a network using a first frequency band. The device is configured to determine that the first frequency band cannot accommodate the user device. The device is configured to determine that the user device can connect to the network using a second frequency band, and connect the user device to the network using the second frequency band rather than the first frequency band.

Frequency band admission

A user device may receive a selection of an application associated with the user device; generate a query based on receiving the selection of the application; provide the query to a first server; and receive, from the first server, a response to the query based on providing the query. The response may include information regarding a resource demand of the application and information regarding a performance of one or more wireless bands. The user device may also determine one or more first wireless bands, of the one or more wireless bands, that satisfy the resource demand; connect with a network via the one or more first wireless bands of the one or more wireless bands; and communicate with a second server using the network to operate the application in accordance with the resource demand.

Dynamic band selection and aggregation

A gateway device, provided in a customer premises, receives a call from a user device, and detects dialed information associated with the call. The gateway device identifies the call as an emergency call based on the dialed information, and terminates all other calls communicated by the gateway device except for the emergency call. The gateway device notifies an outdoor broadband unit, associated with the customer premises, about the emergency call.

Enhanced emergency services for fixed wireless customer premises equipment

Video content may be delivered in a wireless network based on network load information relating to radio interfaces for the wireless network. A method may include receiving a request, from a set-top box, for video content from the set-top box to the wireless network and determining, based on the load information, whether a portion of the wireless network corresponding to the set-top box is in a first state or a second state. The network may further include transmitting the video content when the portion of the network corresponding to the set-top box is in the first state and delaying transmission of the video content when the portion of the network corresponding to the set-top box is in the second state, until the portion of the network corresponding to the set-top box enters the first state.

Video on demand delivery optimization over combined satellite and wireless broadband networks

An outdoor broadband unit includes a wide area network (WAN) side device, and a local area network (LAN) side device. The LAN side device provides a first stay alive communication to the WAN side device, and the WAN side device performs a soft reset based on the stay alive communication. The LAN side device also receives, based on the stay alive communication, a soft reset result from the WAN side device, and determines, based on the soft reset result, whether the soft reset of the WAN side device is successful or unsuccessful. The LAN side device further provides a second stay alive communication to the WAN side device when the soft reset of the WAN side device is successful.

Wide area network (WAN) and local area network (LAN) communications for a fixed wireless CPE

A method, performed by a fixed wireless router device, may include receiving a packet from a Long Term Evolution network, where the packet is associated with a particular Long Term Evolution Quality of Service class and mapping the particular Long Term Evolution Quality of Service class to a particular Differentiated Services Core Point Quality of Service class. The method may further include assigning a Differentiated Services Core Point Quality of Service class to the packet based on the particular Differentiated Services Core Point Quality of Service class and forwarding the packet to particular device associated with a customer premises network serviced by the fixed wireless router device, based on a priority associated with the assigned Differentiated Services Core Point Quality of Service class.

Quality of service management in a fixed wireless customer premises network

An outdoor broadband unit may be connected to an external portion of a customer premises. The outdoor broadband unit may include a radio frequency (RF) antenna to receive communications from a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) network and a printed wiring board. The printed wiring board may include an integrated circuit (IC) chip to implement a subscriber identity module (SIM) to provide services for the LTE network. The IC chip may be soldered to the printed wiring board and have a rated temperature range corresponding to an industrial grade or military grade integrated circuit. The IC chip may provide authentication services for the SIM using a hypertext transfer protocol secure (HTTPS) connection. The printed wiring board may further include a control module to implement an air interface for the LTE network. A radome may contain the RF antenna and the printed wiring board.
