In some implementations, a device may receive, via a universal serial bus (USB) interface, configuration information and a supply of power from a network device. The device may receive, via an antenna that is external to the device, a first signal indicating timing information. The device may generate, based on the first signal, a second signal and a third signal, wherein the second signal comprises a one pulse per second signal and the third signal comprises a ten-megahertz signal. The device may provide, to the network device, the second signal and the third signal. The device may receive, via an input port, a clock signal to provide an extended holdover functionality to the network device.

Systems and methods for providing a global navigation satellite system capability to a time sensitive network device

A network device may receive, from a timing source of a network, timing information. The network device may identify a client device to which the timing information is to be provided, wherein the network device provides an interface between the client device and the network. The network device may select a virtual network address to associate with a timing agent of the network device, wherein the virtual network address is within an address range that is reachable by the client device. The network device may provide to the client device, and via a network layer communication, a timing control packet comprising the timing information, wherein the timing control packet identifies the virtual network address as a source network address of the timing control packet, and wherein the timing information is to be used by the client device to update a clock of the client device.

Providing timing information from a network via a virtual network address

A network device may receive a timing control packet from a first client device. The network device may determine that the network device is in a synchronized state relative to a network grandmaster clock. The network device may modify a first field of a header of the timing control packet to indicate that the network device is in a synchronized state. The network device may modify a second field of the header of the timing control packet to indicate a time at which the network device received the timing control packet from the first client device. The network device may forward, via the network, the timing control packet toward a second client device.

Transporting client timing information across a network

A network device may assign, to a port of a plurality of ports on the network device, a precision timing protocol (PTP) port priority for PTP communications between the network device and another network device. The network device and the other network device may be communicatively connected via a plurality of links in a link aggregation group (LAG). Each port, of the plurality of ports, may be associated with a respective link, of the plurality of links, in the LAG. The network device may generate a link layer discovery protocol (LLDP) frame that includes information identifying the PTP port priority assigned to the port. The network device may transmit the LLDP frame to the other network device to identify, to the other network device, the PTP port priority.

A first network device may receive, from a second network device, a clock quality indication that is associated with a clock of the second network device, wherein the clock of the second network device is a reference clock for a network that includes the first network device and the second network device. The first network device may determine, based on a clock signal of the second network device, that a quality metric of the clock does not satisfy a threshold. The first network device may provide, to the second network device, a clock fault notification to cause the second network device to downgrade the clock quality indication transmitted by the second network device. The first network device may select a new reference clock for the first network device based on receiving the downgraded clock quality indication from the second network device.

Clock fault detection and correction between synchronized network devices

A computer-implemented method for improving clock synchronization between master and slave devices may include receiving at least one clock-synchronization packet transferred from a master device to a slave device via a network that supports an IP. The method may also include identifying at least one item of IP information added to the clock-synchronization packet during the transfer from the master device to the slave device. The method may further include determining that the clock-synchronization packet experienced a delay that exceeds a predetermined threshold during the transfer based at least in part on the item of IP information. Finally, the method may include discarding the clock-synchronization packet from a set of clock-synchronization packets used to synchronize the slave device with the master device in response to the determination. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.

Systems and methods for improving clock synchronization between master and slave devices

A computer-implemented method for improving clock synchronization between master and slave devices may include receiving at least one clock-synchronization packet transferred from a master device to a slave device via a network that supports an IP. The method may also include identifying at least one item of IP information added to the clock-synchronization packet during the transfer from the master device to the slave device. The method may further include determining that the clock-synchronization packet experienced a delay that exceeds a predetermined threshold during the transfer based at least in part on the item of IP information. Finally, the method may include discarding the clock-synchronization packet from a set of clock-synchronization packets capable of being used to synchronize the slave device with the master device in response to the determination. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.

A network device may include a timing module and at least one interface. The timing module determines a local time of the network device indicating when the network device sends a synchronization start message. The at least one interface sends the synchronization start message to a time client device to set the current time of day on the time client device, receives a synchronization response message from the time client device indicating that the current time of day of the time client device was set, and sends a synchronization success message to the time client device indicating that the time client device has correctly set its current time of day.

Enhanced pulse assisted time synchronization protocol

A network device may receive first qualification indicators, for a first signal, from all line cards of the network device. The network device may, in response to the first qualification indicators, transmit instructions to all of the line cards to use the first signal. The network device may further receive second qualification indicators, for a second signal, from all of the line cards. In response to the second qualification indicators, the network device may store information for the second signal in order to use the second signal as a backup signal.

Distributed synchronous ethernet using a centralized controller

Wireless switch licenses are assigned on a cluster basis rather than being limited to individual switches. A switch cluster is made up of two or more wireless switches that each having an assigned number of licenses. Each of the wireless switches is configured to establish the switch cluster with the other wireless switches, and to verify the identity of each other wireless switch in the switch cluster during operation. License restrictions are enforced based upon a total number of licenses for the switch cluster so that the sum of the numbers of licenses assigned to the wireless switches in the cluster are available for use even if one or more of the other wireless switches in the cluster become unavailable.

Methods and apparatus for cluster licensing in wireless switch architecture

Wireless switch are monitored or configured on a cluster basis rather than being limited to configuration on an individual switches. A switch cluster is made up of two or more wireless switches that share a cluster number or other identifier. A command is received from a user interface module at a first node in the cluster, and an instruction related to the command is transmitted from the first node to the other nodes in the cluster. After receiving responses from at least some of the other nodes in the cluster as to the effect of the instruction, the first node provides an updated response to the administrator. The administrator is therefore able to configure or monitor each of the nodes in the cluster from a single administrative node.
