A process for the catalytic hydrogenation or asymmetric hydrogenation of imines of Formula (I) to the corresponding amines of Formula (II) is provided in which Ris aryl; Ris aryl, cyclic, alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl; and Ris alkyl. The catalytic system includes a ruthenium complex containing (1) a diamine and (2) a diphosphine or two monodentate phosphines ligands. Such process also relates to the asymmetric hydrogenation of prochiral imines to the chiral amines using chiral ruthenium complexes bearing chiral diphosphines or chiral monodentate phosphines and chiral diamines. 

Asymmetric imine hydrogenation processes

The invention relates to a process for the reduction of compounds comprising a carbon-carbon (C&#x2550;C), carbon-oxygen (C&#x2550;O), or carbon-nitrogen (C&#x2550;N) double bond, to a corresponding hydrogenated alkane, alcohol or amine, comprising contacting a compound comprising the C&#x2550;C, C&#x2550;O or C&#x2550;N double bond with a hydrogen donor solvent and a catalyst comprising a metal complex having a tridentate aminodiphosphine ligand under transfer hydrogenation conditions.

Transfer hydrogenation processes and catalysts

A process is provided for the hydrogenation or asymmetric hydrogenation of dialkyl, alkylalkenyl and dialkenyl imines of formula (II) to provide amines of formula (III), wherein, (i) Rand Rare optionally substituted cyclic, linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl; Ris a hydrogen atom, a hydroxy radical, optionally substituted Cto Ccyclic, linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl, optionally substituted aryl; or (ii) Ris alkyl or alkenyl, Ris alkyl or alkenyl and the two are linked together or with Rto form one or more rings; using a catalytic system comprising a base and a ruthenium complex containing (1) a diamine and (2) a diphosphine ligand or monodentate phosphine ligands in hydrogenation and asymmetric hydrogenation processes
