A bidirectional transceiver integrated circuit (IC) includes a transmit circuit configured to transmit during a data transfer mode of operation first data over a first bidirectional communication channel to a link partner. The transmit circuit is configured, during a low power mode of operation, to transmit an encoded refresh signal over the first bidirectional communication channel to the link partner. A receiver circuit is configured to receive during the data transfer mode of operation second data independent of the first data over the first bidirectional communication channel. An encoder is configured, during the low power mode of operation, to encode third data into a refresh signal to generate the encoded refresh signal.

Apparatuses, methods, and systems for a Dynamic PHY-Level Collision Avoidance (DPLCA) based Ethernet network are disclosed. The Dynamic PHY-Level Collision Avoidance (DPLCA) Ethernet network includes an Ethernet bus comprising a shared cable, and a plurality of Ethernet nodes connectable to the Ethernet bus. Each of the Ethernet nodes is configured to autonomously select a unique node identifier, including the Ethernet node operating to transmit over the Ethernet bus either a special symbol or packet during a time slot designated for the unique node identifier, monitor any collisions with the transmitted special symbol or packet, and autonomously select the unique node identifier if no collision is detected.

Implementing and operating an ethernet network using dynamic physical layer node ID assignments

A time domain duplex (TDD) device is disclosed. The TDD device may include at least a digital interface and a TDD physical interface (PHY). The digital interface may be coupled to a plurality of peripheral devices. The TDD PHY may be coupled to a micro-coaxial cable. The TDD device may aggregate data from the plurality of peripheral devices and transmit the aggregated data through the TDD PHY.

A method and system for securing CSI and DSI links using enhanced authentication and cloud tracking are disclosed. According to one embodiment, a method comprises receiving at the receiving device an encrypted information signal from the transmitting device. The encrypted information signal includes a unique identifier of the transmitting device. The method further comprises testing whether a whitelist at the receiving device includes the unique identifier of the transmitting device. The encrypted information signal is decrypted producing a retrieved information signal only if the whitelist includes the unique identifier of the transmitting device; and otherwise terminating communication with the transmitting device.

Method and system for securing communication links using enhanced authentication

A method and system for securing in-vehicle ethernet links are disclosed. According to one embodiment, a method comprises receiving from an authenticator, via an insecure channel, a public key of the authenticator, a random number, and a challenge. A private key of the peer that was supplied to the peer is accessed from local storage at the peer. A state machine computes a session key for the peer, based on the random number, the public key of the authenticator, and the private key of the peer. The state machine computes a peer response to the challenge using the session key for the peer and a symmetric cipher function.

Method and system for securing in-vehicle ethernet links

An Ethernet network access device includes a wired Ethernet network port and a wireless network module. The wired Ethernet network port facilitates a wired network connection to a network via a wired network line. The method includes detecting a drop in link quality and performing a first fast retrain sequence, including determining and exchanging THP coefficients based on the drop in link quality. If the performed fast retrain fails to recover the link, a data rate associated with the link is reduced, and a second fast retrain sequence performed.

Rapid rate adaptation in NBASE-T ethernet

In present embodiments, operation methods and apparatus for reducing power consumption in aGBASE-T transceiver circuit having transmit circuitry and receive circuitry for coupling to a plurality of physical channels are provided to transmit first data with the transmit circuitry in a first direction, receive second data with the receive circuitry in a second direction opposite to the first direction, identify an end-of-data indicator associated with the second data, and deactivate the receive circuitry in response to the end-of-data indicator. Preferably, in some embodiments, the receive circuitry is selectively switched off to reduce power consumption.

Method and apparatus for asymmetric ethernet

Methods and apparatus for transmitting Ethernet data along an Ethernet link with a BASE-T transceiver are disclosed. One exemplary BASE-T Ethernet transceiver includes an Ethernet data framing module having an input interface to receive Ethernet block data bits at a first data rate. Logic associates the Ethernet block data bits with an auxiliary bit and a number of zero bits. An error encoder is coupled to the logic to encode all of the data bits, auxiliary bit and zero bits into an error encoded transport frame having plural error check bits. A symbol mapper receives the error encoded transport frame and transforms the error encoded transport frame into multiple symbols. A transmitter coupled to the symbol mapper transmits the multiple symbols over an Ethernet link at one of a selection of symbol rates. The data rate of data transmitted over the Ethernet link is based on the number of zero bits.

Flexible data transmission scheme adaptive to communication channel quality

An Ethernet networking system is disclosed. The system includes a first network device having an interface to receive Ethernet data from a first Ethernet source. An Ethernet media converter couples the network device to telephone wires. The Ethernet media converter includes a first Ethernet transceiver PHY integrated circuit (IC) having a first system-side interface for coupling to a first transmission media including multiple pairs of wires and a first line-side interface. The Ethernet media converter further includes a second Ethernet transceiver PHY IC having a second line-side interface connected to the first line-side interface, and a second system-side interface for coupling to the telephone wires.

High-bandwidth home network over phone line

A method of signaling between Ethernet transceivers along a link is disclosed. The method includes advertising first and second supported data rates between the transceivers during an autonegotiation sequence. The link is then trained to train transceiver operating parameters with a training sequence of symbols. The training includes initiating the training sequence to support the first data rate, determining whether the link can operate at the first data rate, and transferring control information requesting a retrain at a second data rate different than the first data rate if the link cannot support the first data rate. The link is retrained, in response to the control information, to train the parameters for operation at the second data rate. The retraining is carried out without repeating the autonegotiation sequence. The link is then operated in a data transfer mode at the second data rate.

Method and system for ethernet transceiver rate control

A 10GBASE-T circuit is disclosed. The circuit includes a physical (PHY) integrated circuit and a media access control (MAC) integrated circuit. The PHY couples to a data transfer medium and carries out data transfers at a PHY data rate. The MAC integrated circuit controls access to the date transfer medium and couples to the PHY via a bidirectional link operating at a MAC data rate. Rate control logic detects the PHY data rate, and adjusts the MAC data rate to the PHY data rate. Changes to the PHY and MAC data rates may be made at rates higher than 1 Gbps.
