A computing system providing virtual computing services may generate and manage remote computing sessions between client devices and virtual desktop instances (workspaces) hosted on the service provider's network. The system may implement a virtual private cloud for a workspaces service that extends out to gateway components in multiple, geographically distributed point of presence (POP) locations. In response to a client request for a virtual desktop session, the service may configure a virtual computing resource instance for the session and establish a secure, reliable, low latency communication channel (over a virtual private network) between the resource instance and a gateway component at a POP location near the client for communication of a two-way interactive video stream for the session. The availability zone containing the POP location may be different than one hosting the resource instance for the session. Client devices may connect to the gateway component over a public network.

Low latency connections to workspaces in a cloud computing environment

A processing device receives an event notification indicating a security configuration change of a cloud computing resource associated with a member account. In response, the processing device identifies a security policy associated with an administrative account corresponding to the member account and evaluates the security policy against the security configuration change to determine compliance with the policy. If not in compliance, the processing device generates a change event indicating a repair to the security configuration of the cloud computing resource to bring the security configuration into compliance with the security policy.

Firewall management service architecture

A service is described that makes it easy and cost-effective to configure network traffic flowing to multiple endpoints. Enterprises and developers can easily manage the way that end-users are routed to applications running in different geographic regions. Customers can route traffic based on multiple criteria in a customer policy. Customers can manage large-scale, multi-region applications, increase application availability, and minimize latency to end-users. The service can consider the state of end-users, such as their geography, their network, and their latency to different geographic regions. The service can also consider the state of the customer's applications, such as the load on the application, the application's health, the cost of using that application (e.g., resource costs), resource states (e.g., disk throughput), resource location, customer-provided endpoint cost parameters, etc.

Network traffic management system using customer policy settings

Systems and methods may be provided for determining, assigning and directing containers for transshipment between facilities without using an item-level sortation process and moving containers from a receiving area of a facility to an outbound dock without placing the items into inventory. A facility may or may not have item-level sortation processing. Data indicating received items is received. A determination is made for which of the received containers are for transshipment from the materials handling facility based on multiple factors. Containers in receiving that are determined for transshipment may be directed from receive to outbound docks without placing the items into inventory and without using an item-level sortation process. Pallets may be transshipped without placing the items into inventory and without depalletization. A facility with sortation may switch from item-level sortation of transshipments to container-level crossdock transshipment when a sortation process of a processing line approaches or exceeds capacity.

Disclosed are various embodiments for the planning of resources used in computing. Usage statistics regarding one or more virtual machine instances executing in a networked plurality of computing devices are obtained. The usage statistics are grouped, for example, based on one or more customer usage classifications, thereby producing one or more usage groups. A corresponding demand forecast is generated for each of the usage groups. A projected demand for one or more physical components of the networked computing devices is calculated according to the demand forecasts.

Disclosed are various embodiments for the planning of resources used in computing. In various embodiments, approaches for the placement of inbound inventory in a materials handling facility are described. A product identifier is input from inbound inventory into a computer system, where the inbound inventory is to be stocked in a materials handling facility. At least one available inventory location is identified in the computer system that presents a lowest cost for storage of the inbound inventory in the materials handling facility. The inbound inventory is stocked in the at least one available inventory location contemporaneously with the determination of the at least one available inventory location in the computer system that presents the lowest cost for storage of the inbound inventory in the materials handling facility.
