The present invention provides novel pharmaceutical compositions of dimethyl fumarate. The pharmaceutical compositions of the present invention are in the form of a bead and comprise (i) an inert core; (ii) a first layer surrounding the inert core, wherein the first layer comprises dimethyl fumarate; and (iii) an enteric coating surrounding the first layer. Crystals of a solvated cerium(III) halide solvate complex resulted from a process of forming a paste of a cerium(III) halide in an ionic liquid, adding a solvent to the paste, removing any undissolved solid, and then cooling the liquid phase. Diffusing a solvent vapor into the liquid phase also resulted in crystals of a solvated cerium(III) halide complex.
