An architecture and methods for self-sovereign digital identity is described. The method mimics the handling of identities in the physical world, by provisioning unique digital identities to people. Digital identities and consent tokens are said to be self-sovereign because they are tightly controlled by their owners using identity engines installed on personal devices. Identity engines are interoperable, establishing a web identity layer. Self-sovereign digital identities are used to identify their holders, sign and encrypt transactions, and create digital seals that cannot be repudiated. Digital seals affix the identities and attestations of collaborating parties to digital identities, consent tokens, transactions, documents, and other artifacts. Self-sovereign digital identities can be exchanged securely, verified using proof-of-possession and proof-of-custody tests when collaborating synchronously, and verified using a proof-of-existence identity registry when collaborating asynchronously.

Architecture and methods for self-sovereign digital identity

In one or more embodiments, the present invention provide a polyisobutylene-based polyurethane-urea, and related method of preparation, wherein PIB-diols form the soft segment and a diisocyanate along with a well-defined combinations low molecular weight diol chain extenders and amino alcohol as co-chain extenders form the hard segments. In one or more embodiments, the present invention is directed to the use of judiciously chosen chain extender/co-chain extender combinations to enhance the strength of PUs by partially replacing urethane groups with urea groups by the use of amino alcohols to improve strength, while maintaining good processability. These thermoplastic PIB-PUU elastomers exhibit heretofore unattainable combinations of mechanical properties and processability.

Polyisobutylene-based poly(urethane-urea)s

Sulfur containing, hydroxyl-telechelic PIBs, hydrolytically and oxidatively resistant, biocompatible and biostable polyurethanes (PUs) made therefrom, and methods for making both are disclosed. Well-defined hydroxyl telechelic PIBs are synthesized by a thiol-ene click photochemical reaction between PIBs carrying unsaturated end groups and 2-mercaptoethanol (HS&#x2014;CHCH&#x2014;OH). This regioselective process affords HO&#x2014;CHCH&#x2014;S-PIB-S&#x2014;CHCH&#x2014;OH (abbreviated herein as HO&#x2014;S-PIB-S&#x2014;OH) in high yield. In some embodiments, these HO&#x2014;S-PIB-S&#x2014;OH polymers may be reacted with diisocyanates and a chain extender to form sulfur containing PIB-based PUs. These sulfur containing PIB-based PUs have been found to have properties and chemical stability that are very similar to that of PUs made from di-hydroxyl terminated PIBs (OH-PIB-OHs) without sulfur, but have surprisingly increased creep resistance and are easier and less expensive to make.

A system and methods for registering and acquiring e-credentials using personal devices and an identity registry system that combines the method for handling digital seals with a proof-of-existence method. The identity registry system is used to register and verify e-credentials. Device owners register their e-credentials when created and updated and verify acquired e-credentials to safeguard against tampering and errors. When registering an e-credential, the e-credential is hashed and digitally sealed creating an identifying thumbprint that is stored in the identity registry system. When verifying an acquired e-credential, the e-credential is hashed, the identity registry system is searched to locate the identifying thumbprint, and the digital seal of the thumbprint is verified. A requesting owner can request an issuing owner to proof, attest, and digitally seal an e-credential of the requester.

Systems and methods for registering and acquiring E-credentials using proof-of-existence and digital seals

The described method is analogous to handling credentials in the physical world where agents and notary publics affix their attestations using their notary seals. The described method enables a person having a personal identity device and an electronic credential (e-credential) to create a digital seal to affix the owner's identity and attestation to an electronic artifact such as a transaction, document, or e-credential. The e-credential owner cannot repudiate having affixed the attestation to the electronic artifact. This enables other parties, including the e-credential owner, to inspect the digital seal affixed to the electronic artifact to identify the owner and the electronic artifact, verify the digital seal, and thereby obtain objective evidence that the attestation is truthful. The private embossing key of the owner's e-credential is used to cryptographically bind the owner's identity and attestation to the electronic artifact by means of a digital seal, while the public inspection key of the owner's e-credential is used to cryptographically verify the digital seal and attestation.

Methods for using digital seals for non-repudiation of attestations

Described is an electronic credentialing system that allows personal identity devices to interact; each interacting device has an installed identity engine that acquires, holds, issues and uses electronic credentials (e-credentials), these electronic credentials can be installed on personal identity devices, such as: smart phones, tablets, laptops, embedded systems, and/or personal computers.
