Compositions of a whole fruit-derived cranberry ingredient profile, enriched in Stress Adapted Bioactive (SABs) from cranberries are described, for use in reducing the blood glucose level of diabetic, prediabetic, or other hyperglycemic individuals and individuals having one or more metabolic syndrome related factors. The compositions are prepared from whole fruit-derived cranberry pomace, which may be liquid or powdered, and which is enriched in Stress Adapted Bioactives (SABs) and enriched in soluble polyphenolics. Methods for using whole cranberry ingredient profile, enriched in polyphenolic-containing SABs, for the management of individuals having one or more symptoms of metabolic syndrome and for minimizing the effects of the syndrome are disclosed.

Compositions for increasing valuable agronomic traits in plants are provided comprised of seaweed extract and fish hydrolysate. Methods of preparing compositions of the invention are provided which comprise mixing seaweed extract with fish hydrolysate and fermenting the mixture. Methods of increasing at least one valuable agronomic trait in a plant are provided comprising applying a composition comprising seaweed extract and fish hydrolysate to the plant.

Organic compositions and methods of use for promoting plant growth

The present invention relates to the discovery that fishery by-products, in particular fish protein hydrolysate, can be used as a source of nutrients in plant tissue culture. A composition can be made by mixing a plant tissue culture medium, a fishery by-product, and a buffer compound. The composition is used for culturing plant tissues, to promote somatic embryogenesis, reduce vitrification (hyperhydricity) in cultured tissues, and to enhance acclimation of plants by both reducing the amount of time required for acclimation, and by increasing the survival rate of plants through the acclimation process.

Plant propagation compositions and methods

The invention is based on the discovery that fruit pomace, the solid waste presscake left behind after fruit processing, can be used as a growth substrate for microorganisms that inhibit plant pathogens or degrade pollutants, or both. A composition can be made from fruit pomace by adding nitrogen, adjusting the pH, inoculating the pomace with a selected microorganism, and allowing the microorganism to grow in the pomace. The pomace composition is then used as a vehicle for suppression of plant pathogens or bioremediation.

Fruit pomace compositions and uses thereof

A new strain Penicillium Sp.B1 ATCC74414 has been discovered that is capable of degrading polymeric aromatic dyes, including azo dyes. The invention features new Penicillium strains, and mutants thereof, as well as methods of bioremediation to degrade these dyes and other, related aromatic pollutants.

A method for selecting plants and plant tissue cultures that contain elevated levels of secondary metabolites is disclosed. The method uses clonal organogenic tissue culture lines, the cultures being derived from cells of a member of the Lamiaceae family. Cultured tissue propagules are placed in contact with mucoid, non-pathogenic bacterial cells and cultured for a period of time. Those clonal lines exhibiting tolerance to the bacterial cells have elevated levels of secondary metabolites. Cultured tissue from such lines can be regenerated into plants, which are used to more efficiently produce essential oils for food and medicinal purposes.
