An indexable turning insert includes two opposing larges sides formed by a support center part and a plurality of cutting parts projecting outwardly therefrom, each having a cutting edge extending between the sides and being spaced apart around the outer perimeter of the center part for indexing, has four the cutting parts. Each cutting part has a clearance side extending on one of the sides of the insert from the cutting edge of the cutting part towards the center part while making clearance angles in two dimensions with respect to the cutting edge, and the cutting edge of each cutting part makes an angle being below 90&#xb0; by less than the clearance angles with the other of the sides of the insert.

A cutting insert for chip removing machining is provided, the cutting insert including an elongate center part, cutting edges being arranged at the opposite ends of the center part, the cutting insert being provided with engagement members along two longitudinal, opposite sides, the cutting edges forming, in an end view of the cutting insert, a mutual angle (&#x3b1;). A tool is also provided and includes such a cutting insert. The cutting insert includes rake faces associated with the respective cutting edge that are facing the opposite direction in the vertical direction (H) of the cutting insert, and the mutual angle (&#x3b1;) is in the interval of 10&#xb0;&#x3c;&#x3b1;&#x3c;20&#xb0;, and a distance (H) is measured between the intersection of the cutting edge with a center line (C-C) of the cutting insert and the outermost portion of the lower engagement member and in that in an end view of the cutting insert, the ratio between the distance (H) and the height (H) of the cutting insert is the following: 0.5H&#x2266;H&#x2266;0.7H, the distance (H) and the height being measured along a center line (C-C) of the cutting insert.

Cutting insert for chip removing machining

A device for chip removing machining includes first and second parts coupled together, wherein one of the parts includes a cutting edge. A coupling between the first and second parts includes two interacting surfaces and a clamp for forcing the surfaces together. The surfaces are profiled with male and female members, respectively, that are intercoupled to establish a form locking of the first and second parts against each other. The first and second parts are provided with central holes for receiving the clamp. The male and female members are configured to define only a single position of intercoupling.

A tool for chip removing machining includes a holder and at least one cutting insert received in the holder. The holder is provided with at least one insert pocket, in which the cutting insert is intended to be received, and an opening connected to the insert pocket. The insert pocket has a first holding member provided along the periphery of the insert pocket, and the cutting insert has an anchor section and an edge portion connected to the anchor section. A second holding member is provided along the circumference of the anchor section. The first and the second holding members are intended to cooperate when the cutting insert is mounted in the insert pocket. The periphery of the insert pocket, at least partly, is defined by one or more circular arcs with a common center of rotation. The anchor section is provided with a number of holding members distributed along its circumference, and portions of these holding members located furthest away from of the cutting insert center are defined by circular arcs having a common center of rotation. The circular arcs are located at the same distance from the common center of rotation.

Tool for chip removing machining

The present invention relates to cutting tools and, more particularly, to cutting tools having inserts and insert-receiving recesses with curved surfaces. The cutting tool includes a toolholder having a recess and an insert adapted to be received in the recess. The recess has a top surface with a curved portion, a bottom surface with a curved portion, and a fixed stop surface. The insert has a top surface with a curved portion, a bottom surface with a curved portion, and a stop surface. The curved portion of the top surface of the insert and the curved portion of the bottom surface of the insert are curved such that they abut against the curved portion of the top surface of the recess and the curved portion of the bottom surface of the recess, respectively, when the stop surface of the insert abuts against the fixed stop surface of the recess. The present invention also relates to a cutting tool kit, a cutting insert and a method for positioning an insert relative to a toolholder.

An apparatus for chip removing machining includes first and second parts which are intercoupled by a coupling. The coupling includes two interacting surfaces disposed on the first and second parts, respectively. The interacting surfaces are profiled to intermesh with one another to define an intermeshing region of the coupling. Each of the surfaces is profiled with first and second sets of grooves which define first and second main directions, respectively, which extend transversely to one another. At least one groove on each of the surfaces extends across less than the entire intermeshing region, wherein the surfaces define only one coupling position for the first and second parts.
