The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a web or film comprising highly refined cellulose fibers in a paper machine, the method comprising the steps of: a) forming a wet web by applying an aqueous pulp suspension comprising highly refined cellulose fibers on a wire; and b) dewatering the wet web on the wire to obtain a dewatered web comprising highly refined cellulose fibers, wherein the dewatering comprises membrane assisted dewatering using a gas permeable membrane temporarily applied to the wet web, wherein the gas permeable membrane has a lower air permeability than the wire.

Method for manufacturing films comprising highly refined cellulose fibers

The present invention is directed to a process for manufacturing a film or coating comprising high amounts of cellulosic nanomaterial. According to the present invention, a screen printing press, such as a rotary screen press, is used to create a film or coating comprising cellulosic nanomaterial. One benefit of the present process is that the suspension used in the printing process has a high dry content and high viscosity, thereby facilitating the process for manufacturing a film or coating comprising high amounts of cellulosic nanomaterial.

The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a film comprising highly refined cellulose fibers in a paper-making machine, the method comprising the steps of: a) providing an aqueous pulp suspension comprising at least 20% by dry weight of highly refined cellulose fibers having an SR (Schopper-Riegier) value in the range of 80-100 at a consistency in the range of 0.8-3 wt % and; b) deflocculating and diluting the aqueous pulp suspension to a lower consistency in the range of 0.1-1.5 wt % by injecting the aqueous pulp suspension into an aqueous stream using a high shear mixer to obtain a diluted aqueous pulp suspension; and c) feeding the diluted aqueous pulp suspension to a headbox of the paper-making machine.

The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a multilayer film comprising microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) in a paper-making machine, the method comprising the steps of: a) forming a bottom web layer by applying a first pulp suspension comprising at least 50% by dry weight of cellulose based fibrous material having an SR (Schopper-Riegler) value in the range of 18-75 on a bottom web wire; b) forming or applying an intermediate web layer formed from a second pulp suspension comprising at least 50% by dry weight of MFC having an SR value in the range of 80-100 on the bottom web layer; c) applying a top web layer formed from a third pulp suspension comprising at least 50% by dry weight of cellulose based fibrous material having an SR (Schopper-Riegler) value in the range of 18-75 on the intermediate web layer to form a multilayer web; and d) dewatering, and optionally drying, the formed multilayer web to obtain a multilayer film comprising MFC.

The invention discloses a paperboard for packaging of a heat-sealable packaging material comprising: —a paperboard substrate comprising a first and a second side, —a first and an optional second dispersion coating layer on the first side, which first and optional second dispersion coating layer provides a barrier against at least one of liquid, moisture, grease and gas, —an extrusion coated barrier layer comprising a polyolefin, wherein the first and optional second dispersion coating layer is applied between the paperboard substrate and the extrusion coated barrier layer, and wherein the coat weight of the extrusion coated barrier layer is less than 15 gsm. The packaging material according of the invention minimizes the amount of plastic coating, but still provides the needed barrier properties for the packaging of food and/or liquid. The packaging material has especially been shown to provide a longer shelf life for food items packed in a packaging made from the material. Especially, the packaging material provides gas-, liquid and/or grease barrier properties. Although the packaging material comprises such low amount of extruded thermoplastic polymers, the material is readily heat-sealable.

The present invention is directed to a process for manufacturing a nano-coated pulp-based substrate comprising the steps of: a) providing a suspension comprising pulp, said pulp having Schopper Riegler value of at least 70°; b) using the suspension of step a) to form a wet web; c) dewatering and/or drying the wet web to form a substrate; d) adding a first layer of an acrylic monomer solution comprising less than 2 wt-% water to the surface of the substrate, followed by radiation curing the first layer; e) optionally adding a second layer comprising an acrylic monomer solution to the surface of the cured first layer and radiation curing the second layer; f) providing a nano-coating on the surface of the cured first or second layer such that a nano-coating having a thickness in the range of from 0.1 nm to 100 nm is provided on the substrate.

The invention relates to a method to produce a linerboard exhibiting a high bending resistance and a high compression strength, which in turn provides high resistance to interflute buckling and sagging in a thereof formed corrugated board. This is achieved by the inventive combination of an optimized fiber refining level of the furnish in each layer of the linerboard, the separate formation of the top layer and the use of a multi-layer headbox to form the two-layered ply. In addition, the linerboard made according to the invention provides good printing properties in a thereof produced corrugated board, especially in flexographic printing, without the fluting structure being negatively affected.
