A food or beverage container having a body portion or an end portion that includes a metal substrate with a coating composition disposed thereon. The coating composition includes a water-dispersible acrylic linear block copolymer made by surfactant-free heterogeneous radical polymerization ('SFHRP'). The block copolymer imparts a desirable combination of flexibility and corrosion resistance to the coating composition, and the substantial absence of surfactants during polymerization contributes to other desirable properties including good blush resistance.

Packaging coating containing water-dispersible acrylic block copolymer

A water-in-oil emulsion that includes an oil phase (O) and an aqueous phase (A) at an O/A ratio of from about 1:8 to about 10:1; wherein the water-in-oil emulsion includes the oil phase as a continuous phase that includes an inert hydrophobic liquid, at least one water-insoluble hydrophobic monomer, and at least one surfactant, and the aqueous phase as a dispersed phase of distinct particles in the oil phase that includes water and a water soluble polymer that includes: (i) at least one acrylamide monomer and (ii) at least one acrylic acid monomer; wherein the water soluble polymer is present in an amount from about 10 to about 35 weight percent of the water-in-oil emulsion. Also provided is water-in-oil emulsion that includes an oil phase (O) and an aqueous phase (A) at an O/A ratio of from about 1:8 to about 10:1; wherein the water-in-oil emulsion includes the oil phase as a continuous phase that includes an inert hydrophobic liquid and at least one surfactant, and the aqueous phase as a dispersed phase of distinct particles in the oil phase that includes water and a water soluble polymer that includes: (i) at least one acrylamide monomer, (ii) at least one acrylic acid monomer, and (iii) at least one water soluble hydrophobic monomer; wherein the water soluble polymer is present in an amount from 10 to 35 weight percent of the water-in-oil emulsion. Methods of treating a portion of a subterranean formation with a water-in-oil emulsion are also provided.

Viscosifying friction reducers

A method of forming a coating on a food or beverage container, which includes spraying a coating composition onto an interior surface of the food or beverage container, where the coating composition includes a latex copolymer and a metal drier or crosslinking agent. The latex copolymer is a reaction product of monomers that include (a) one or more styrene-mimicking monomers containing one or more cyclic groups and one or more ethylenically-unsaturated groups, at least a portion of such styrene-mimicking monomers being polycyclic monomers containing ring unsaturation, and (b) one or more other ethylenically-unsaturated monomers. Preferably, the coating composition is substantially free of each of BPA, PVC, other halogenated monomers, and optionally styrene. The method may also include curing the sprayed coating composition, thereby providing the coating on the interior surface of the food or beverage container.

Crosslinked coating compositions for packaging articles such as food and beverage containers

Water-dispersible or water-dispersed polymers are made by reacting (i) an unsaturated monomer containing one or more cyclic carbonate groups, or (ii) an unsaturated or saturated oligomer or polymer containing a plurality of cyclic carbonate groups, with a tertiary amine in the presence of an acid, or with an acid in the presence of a tertiary amine, or in the presence of an acid and a tertiary amine, to provide a water-dispersible or water-dispersed monomer, oligomer or polymer. When step a) provides a monomer or oligomer, the monomer or oligomer is reacted with one or more monomers in the presence of an initiator to provide a water-dispersible or water-dispersed polymer. When step a) provides a polymer, the polymer is optionally used to support emulsion polymerization of one or more unsaturated monomers in the presence of an initiator to provide a water-dispersible or water-dispersed further polymer.

Method for making water-dispersible and water-dispersed polymers

A water-in-oil emulsion having an oil phase (O) and an aqueous phase (A) at an O/A ratio of from about 1:8 to about 10:1; wherein the water-in-oil emulsion includes the oil phase as a continuous phase that includes an inert hydrophobic liquid, and the aqueous phase as a dispersed phase of distinct particles in the oil phase that includes water, a water soluble polymer, and at least one surfactant; wherein the water soluble polymer includes from about 1 to about 60 weight percent of one or more cationic monomers, wherein the amount is by total weight of the water soluble polymer; wherein the water soluble polymer is present in an amount from about 5 to about 40 weight percent of the water-in-oil emulsion; and wherein an aqueous solution prepared by inverting the water-in-oil emulsion by adding it to water has at least comparable viscosity build to an aqueous solution made from a water-in-oil emulsion of the same composition containing 15 weight percent more water soluble polymer. Also provided is a method of treating a portion of a subterranean formation that includes the steps of: (a) providing a water-in-oil emulsion according to the present disclosure; (b) inverting the water-in-oil emulsion by adding it to water at from about 0.1 to about 5 gallons of water-in-oil emulsion per thousand gallons of water to form a friction reducing treatment solution containing from about 0.0005 weight percent to about 0.12 weight percent water soluble polymer based on the weight of the treatment solution; and (c) introducing the treatment solution into the portion of the subterranean formation.

Diluted cationic friction reducers

A method of forming a coating on a food or beverage container, which includes spraying a coating composition onto an interior surface of the food or beverage container, where the coating composition includes a latex copolymer and a metal drier or crosslinking agent. The latex copolymer is a reaction product of monomers that include (a) one or more styrene-offset monomers containing one or more cyclic groups and one or more ethylenically-unsaturated pendant groups, at least a portion of such styrene-offset monomers being polycyclic monomers containing ring unsaturation, and (b) one or more other ethylenically-unsaturated monomers. Preferably, the coating composition is substantially free of BPA, PVC, and styrene. The method may also include curing the sprayed coating composition, thereby providing the coating on the interior surface of the food or beverage container.

A friction reducing treatment solution that includes water, from 100 to 500,000 ppm of total dissolved solids, and from 0.5 to 3 gallons per thousand gallons of a water-in-oil emulsion containing a water soluble polymer. The total dissolved solids include at least 10 weight percent of a multivalent cation. The water-in-oil emulsion includes an oil phase and an aqueous phase, where the oil phase is a continuous phase containing an inert hydrophobic liquid and the aqueous phase is present as dispersed distinct particles in the oil phase and contains water, the water soluble polymer, and surfactants and an inverting surfactant. The water soluble polymer is made up of 30 to 60 weight percent of a non-ionic monomer, 0.5 to 25 weight percent of a carboxylic acid containing monomer, 0 to 10 weight percent of a sulfonic acid containing monomer, and 10 to 60 weight percent of a cationic monomer and makes up from 10 to 35 weight percent of the water-in-oil emulsion.

Salt tolerant friction reducer

A friction reducing treatment solution that includes water, from 100 to 500,000 ppm of total dissolved solids, and from 0.5 to 3 gallons per thousand gallons of a water-in-oil emulsion containing a water soluble polymer. The total dissolved solids include at least 10 weight percent of a multivalent cation. The water-in-oil emulsion includes an oil phase and an aqueous phase, where the oil phase is a continuous phase containing an inert hydrophobic liquid and the aqueous phase is present as dispersed distinct particles in the oil phase and contains water, the water soluble polymer, and surfactants and an inverting surfactant. The water soluble polymer is made up of 20 to 80 weight percent of a non-ionic monomer, 0.5 to 30 weight percent of a carboxylic acid containing monomer, and 5 to 70 weight percent of a cationic monomer and makes up from 10 to 35 weight percent of the water-in-oil emulsion.
