Example embodiments are directed to methods of reducing interference in a communication system. In at least one example embodiment, a method includes first determining, by a first transmitter having a multi-directional antenna configured to produce a plurality of beams, at least one interference level of at least one interfering beam of a plurality of beams of at least one transmitter in the communication system, second determining a transmitting beam pattern based on the interference level, the transmitting beam pattern indicating a sequence of illuminating the plurality of beams at corresponding time slots, third determining a fractional frequency reuse pattern based on the transmitting beam pattern, and transmitting data based on the transmitting beam pattern and the frequency reuse pattern.

Methods for reducing interference in a communication system

An example method of tactical communication is provided. The method includes receiving information indicating a tactical situation associated with a target area. The tactical situation is one of a missile in-flight, an eavesdropper, a signal jammer, and a transceiver located in a zone of interest. The method further includes performing a beamforming process including instructing transmission of a plurality of signaling beams from one or more transmitters toward the target area. The tactical situation may be associated with a foe and the plurality of signaling beams generate interference inhibiting communication with by the foe. The tactical situation may be associated with a friend and the plurality of signaling beams generate decodable signal for enhancing communication with the friend.

Method and apparatus for beamforming

Systems and methods for a localization system are provided. In one aspect, a RF signature map for a geographical area is determined using a Gaussian Process ('GP') model. Training RF measurements are taken at some locations within the area to train the GP using the Firefly Algorithm ('FA'). The RF measurements for other locations of the area are predicted using the conditional probabilities of the trained GP and without taking RF measurements at those other locations. The RF signature map is used for fingerprinting localization. In one aspect, a reference RF signature map is constructed for one, some, or all access points (&#x201c;APs&#x201d;) covering the area. A location of a user device, such as, for example, a smart phone, is then estimated by comparing the RF signals received by the user device from one or more APs with the determined one or more reference RF signature maps using a combined likelihood function.

Systems and methods for localization

An example system includes a plurality of wireless communication elements and a controller. The plurality of wireless communication elements are configured to provide wireless service to a geographic area of interest, each wireless communication element comprising at least an antenna port or at least one antenna. The controller is configured to control the wireless communication elements, wherein the controller is configured to determine respective ones of the wireless communication elements that are to be activated or not activated.

Method and apparatus for wireless system control to enable provision of high capacity in areas with high concentration of wireless user devices

Example embodiments are directed to methods of reducing interference in a communication system. A method includes receiving, by a transmitter, first and second quantized matrices from a mobile station. The first and second quantized matrices are based on an estimated channel matrix and an estimated interference matrix. Methods for reducing interference in communication systems

Systems and methods are disclosed to allocate resources in discrete Fourier transform spread orthogonal frequency division multiple access (DFT-S-OFDMA) networks, which involve determining a reward for each user when assigned a frequency chunk (FC) of subcarriers, where each FC is a set of contiguous subcarriers; splitting each user into one or more sub-users, with each sub-user having identical rewards; and assigning resources with a message-passing based FC allocation.

Distributed message-passing based resource allocation in wireless systems

A method for the polarization independent frequency domain equalization (FDE) chromatic dispersion compensation on polarization multiplexing (POLMUX) coherent systems. Operationally, time domain signals are converted to frequency domain signals such that time domain convolution can be done as simple multiplications in the frequency domain. These frequency domain signals then converted back to time domain for subsequent use. The input signal size and FFT size are advantageously designed so that the output signals can be continuous with some overlap between two successive frames.
