A motor vehicle steering column with a positioning device () is provided as well as a positioning device for motor vehicle steering columns. The positioning device has a first bracket () for connecting the positioning device () with the motor vehicle steering column (), a second bracket () for connecting the positioning device () with the body of a vehicle, a toothed rack () arranged at the first bracket () with at least one row of locking teeth and alignment of the row of locking teeth in parallel to a first direction of adjustment, a second toothed rack () arranged at the second bracket () with at least one row of locking teeth and alignment of the row of locking teeth in parallel to a second direction of adjustment, with a first locking element with at least one row of locking teeth, which can be caused to mesh with the row of locking teeth of the first toothed rack (), with a second locking element () with at least one row of locking teeth, which can be caused to mesh with the row of locking teeth of the second toothed rack, with a spacer for setting a defined distance of the second locking element () in relation to the first locking element, and with a clamping mechanism (). The clamping mechanism () provides for the simultaneous locking and unlocking of the first and second () locking elements with the respective first () and second () toothed rack.

Positioning device for motor vehicle steering columns

A motor vehicle steering column unit with a steering column housing and a steering column arranged therein and with an electrically driven adjusting device is disclosed for the longitudinal adjustment and for the tilt adjustment of the steering column. The adjusting device has only one electric drive unit for the rotary drive of an adjusting spindle, as well as at least two spindle nuts, which are arranged on the adjusting spindle and are mounted movably in the axial direction of the adjusting spindle. At least one adjusting mechanism each for the longitudinal movement and for the tilting movement, as well as one switching device for each direction of movement is provided. A nonpositive connection can be established between the respective switching device and the spindle nut located adjacent to the switching device.

Motor vehicle steering column unit

An adjustable steering column for motor vehicles, in which a steering axle (2), which is composed of parts that are telescopingly displaceable in relation to one another and is connected at its top end (3) to the steering wheel, is rotatably mounted in a housing (1), and this housing is supported in a holder (4) that is a rigid part of the body both pivotably around a transverse axis (7) and displaceably in the longitudinal direction of the steering column in relation to the body. The actually supported position is continuously lockable by two hydraulically acting piston-and-cylinder units (13, 14), which are rigidly articulated to the body, on the one hand, and are connected to the housing (1) in an articulated manner, on the other hand. One of the two piston-and-cylinder units (13) is connected to the housing (1) in an articulated manner via an angle lever (10) that is mounted in the holder (4) pivotably around a transverse axis (7), and both piston-and-cylinder units (13, 14) are aligned approximately in parallel to the longitudinal axis (8) of the steering column.

Adjustable steering column for motor vehicles

The present invention pertains to a steering column for a motor vehicle equipped with an inflatable air bag in the steering wheel (6), in which the parts (3, 4) of a steering shaft, which are connected to one another by a universal joint (5), are rotatably mounted in a housing consisting of a movable upper housing part (1) and a lower housing part (2) rigidly attached to the body, and the two parts of the housing are connected by a hinge (7) to a hinge axis (9) that extends approximately horizontally in the plane of the intersection of the axes of the universal joint, and can be interlocked with one another by the frictional engagement of a clamping device (13). In this steering column, the hinge (7) of the two housing parts (1, 2) is arranged at a spaced location from and above the central longitudinal axis (8) of the steering column, and the two housing parts (1, 2) can be interlocked with one another only in a position in which the axes of the steering shaft parts (3, 4) connected to one another by the universal joint (5) form an angle that is open toward the hinge (7), and the frictional engagement can be overcome by the recoil forces of the ignition of the air bag during the inflation of the air bag.
