A method for producing an optical waveguide by: (a) depositing a first composition: (i) a polysiloxane comprising epoxy and alkenyl groups with refractive index no greater than 1.50, (ii) a compound comprising at least one epoxy group and refractive index no greater than 1.49, and (iii) a polysiloxane having refractive index at least 1.50; (iv) a photo acid generator; (v) a hydrosilylation catalyst, (vi) an inhibitor for hydrosilylation; (b) curing by exposure to ultraviolet light; (c) removing the uncured portion to produce a patterned core layer; (d) after a time from 20 to 300 hours depositing a second composition comprising: (i) a polysiloxane comprising epoxy groups with refractive index no greater than 1.49, and (ii) a compound comprising at least two epoxy groups with a refractive index no greater than 1.49 and an alcohol having refractive index no more than 1.45 (iii) at least one photo acid generator.

Method for optical waveguide fabrication

A composition for forming a foamed silicone elastomer is disclosed. The composition comprises: A) an organopolysiloxane having at least two silicon-bonded ethylenically unsaturated groups per molecule; B) an organohydrogensiloxane having at least two silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms per molecule; C) a hydrosilylation catalyst; D) a chemical blowing agent; and E) a physical blowing agent. The hydrosilylation catalyst C) is present in a catalytically effective amount. The chemical blowing agent D) has at least one hydroxyl (OH) group, and is present in an amount to provide a OH content &#x3e;0 and &#x3c;500 parts per million (ppm). The physical blowing agent E) undergoes a phase change from a liquid to a gaseous state during exposure to atmospheric pressure and a temperature &#x2265;0&#xb0; C. The blowing agents D) and E) are different from one another. A foamed silicone elastomer, and methods of forming the composition and foamed silicone elastomer are also disclosed.

A method for producing an optical waveguide by: (a) depositing on a substrate a composition comprising: (i) a poly-siloxane comprising epoxy groups and alkenyl groups, (ii) a silane crosslinker having at least two silicon-hydrogen bonds and (iii) at least one compound comprising an epoxy group and a refractive index of at least 1.49; (b) heating; (c) depositing a second composition comprising: (i) a second polysiloxane comprising epoxy groups and alkenyl groups, and (ii) a second silane crosslinker having at least two silicon-hydrogen bonds; (d) curing by heating; (e) exposing to ultraviolet light through a mask to produce a patterned core layer; (f) heating to evaporate at least a part of the uncured portion of the first composition.

A composition comprises (A) a condensation reaction catalyst, (B) a polyorganosiloxane having an average, per molecule, of at least two hydrolyzable substituents, (C) a crosslinker, and (D) a thermally conductive filler. The polyorganosiloxane may be silanol terminated, and the crosslinker may be an alkoxysilylhydrocarbylene functional polyorganosiloxane. The composition is capable of reacting via condensation reaction to form a thermally conductive product. The composition and product are useful for thermal management in (opto)electronics applications.

A hydrosilylation process is used to prepare a polyorganosiloxane having clustered functional groups at the polyorganosiloxane chain terminals. The ingredients used in the process include a) a polyorganosiloxane having an average of at least 2 aliphatically unsaturated organic groups per molecule, b) a polyorganohydrogensiloxane having an average of 4 to 15 silicon atoms per molecule and at least 4 silicon bonded hydrogen atoms for each aliphatically unsaturated organic group in ingredient a), c) a reactive species having, per molecule at least 1 aliphatically unsaturated organic group and 1 or more curable groups; and d) a hydrosilylation catalyst. The resulting clustered functional polyorganosiloxane is useful in a curable silicone composition for electronics applications.

The present invention relates to a light-emitting device including a light source, a first light-emitting material spaced apart from the light source, and at least one additional light-emitting material. The first light-emitting material includes low reabsorbing semiconductor nanocrystals having an emission-center core, an exterior protective shell, and at least one inner light-absorbing shell. The device is useful for efficiently producing white light having a high color rendering index.

A thermally conductive grease includes 2 vol % to 15 vol % of a combination of three polyorganosiloxanes and 65 vol % to 98 vol % of a thermally conductive filler. A method of making the siloxane includes charging (HMeSiO)(MeHSiO)(HSiO)(SiO), a platinum catalyst, and an alkene of the formula CR&#x2032;&#x2550;CR&#x2032;&#x2014;Y&#x2014;Z or CR&#x2032;&#x2550;CR&#x2032;&#x2014;Z into a reactor to form the siloxane. The siloxane is useful as a component in holographic storage media for photopolymer-based holographic data storage applications. The siloxane exhibits excellent compatibility when mixed with a polymerizable component before the polymerizable component is cured. Furthermore, the siloxane exhibits excellent diffusion from polymers of the polymerizable component after partial and complete curing. The siloxane also has a high refractive index while maintaining the excellent compatibility and diffusion properties when mixed with polymerizable component.

This invention pertains to a siloxane resin composition comprising RSiOsiloxane units, RSiOsiloxane units and (RO)SiOsiloxane units wherein Ris an alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbons, hydrogen, or mixtures thereof; Ris a monovalent organic group having 6 to 30 carbons; Ris a branched alkyl group having 3 to 30 carbons, b is from 1 to 3; and the siloxane resin contains from 2.5 to 85 mole percent RSiOunits, 2.5 to 50 mole percent RSiOunits and 5 to 95 mole percent (RO)SiOunits. The siloxane resin is useful to make insoluble porous resin and insoluble porous coatings. Heating a substrate coated with the siloxane resin at a sufficient temperature effects removal of the Rand RO groups to form an insoluble insoluble porous coating having a porosity of 1 to 60 volume percent and a dielectric constant in the range of 1.5 to 3.0.

Herein is disclosed a resin solution, comprising (a) about 0.1 solids wt % to about 50 solids wt % of an organosiloxane resin comprising the formula (RSiO ) (R&prime;SiO ) , wherein R is selected from the group consisting of C -C alkyl, C -C alkenyl, C -C alkoxy, C -C alkenoxy, and C -C substituted hydrocarbon; R&prime; is selected from the group consisting of &mdash;H, C -C unsubstituted hydrocarbon, and C -C substituted hydrocarbon; x is from about 5 mole % to about 75 mole %; y is from about 10 mole % to about 95 mole %; and x&plus;y is at least about 40 mole %; and (b) about 50 solids wt % to about 99.9 solids wt % of a resin comprising at least about 90 mole % of the formula HSiO . Also disclosed herein is a method of preparing such a resin solution, as well as a method of preparing a solid coating, comprising (i) coating the resin solution on a surface; (ii) removing the solvent from the resin solution; (iii) removing R groups from the organosiloxane resin; and (iv) curing the resin solution, to form the solid coating. Coatings prepared from the resins disclosed herein have relatively low dielectric constants and also have relatively low SiH content and relatively high modulus.

This invention pertains to a siloxane resin composition comprising R SiO siloxane units, R SiO siloxane units and (R O) SiO siloxane units wherein R is an alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbons, hydrogen, or mixtures thereof; R is a monovalent organic group having 6 to 30 carbons; R is a branched alkyl group having 3 to 30 carbons, b is from 1 to 3; and the siloxane resin contains from 2.5 to 85 mole percent R SiO units, 2.5 to 50 mole percent R SiO units and 5 to 95 mole percent (R O) SiO units.
