A tensioning device is provided for a surge arrester having an end fitting and tensioner. The tensioning device has an axial clearance for receiving a tensioner and a region being conically tapered in axial direction to be introduced into a clearance of the end fitting being shaped for a substantially exact fit. The conically tapered region has delimitation walls defining the axial clearance for the tensioner being movable toward a clearance interior. An antifriction layer is applied to the surface of the conically tapered region. A production method for a surge arrester and a corresponding surge arrester are also provided.

A surge arrester is connected in an output current path from an electrical power supply system. A cut-off arrangement is also provided in the output current path and has a first electrode and a second electrode. The second electrode has a recess in which at least part of a gas generator is arranged. The recess is covered by a cover. When the cut-off arrangement responds, an additional volume for accommodation of expanded gas is provided upon demand, in addition to an arcing area provided in the interior of the cut-off arrangement.

A device for monitoring a leakage current of a surge arrester has a measuring element for detecting a leakage current in a leakage current circuit. A filter assembly filters the leakage current in order to extract a third harmonic oscillation which is evaluated by an evaluation circuit with respect to the value thereof. The evaluation circuit delivers at least one warning signal to a display device. In a preferred embodiment, three display devices operating as a signaling light are provided. A power supply for the used circuits is obtainable by way of a transformer which extracts a necessary auxiliary zero-potential energy contained in the leakage current and with the aid of a main power supply unit connected to the transformer.
