Some embodiments of an apparatus may include: a plurality of light sources, wherein each of the plurality of light sources is configured to emit a respective light beam; one or more diffractive layers; and an optical mask configured to be synchronized to an illumination of the respective light beams. Some embodiments of a method may include: emitting a light beam from each of a plurality of light emitting sources to generate a plurality of light beams; diffracting each of the plurality of light beams to generate a plurality of diffracted light beams; and synchronizing an optical mask to the plurality of diffracted light beams.

3D display directional backlight based on diffractive elements

Systems and methods are described for providing a 3D display, such as a light-field display. In some embodiments, a display device includes a light-emitting layer comprising an addressable array of light-emitting elements. An optical layer overlays the light-emitting layer. The optical layer includes a plurality of distributed lenses. In some embodiments, the distributed lenses include non-contiguous lens regions. In some embodiments, distributed lens regions with different optical centers are interlaced with one another. A spatial light modulator is operative to provide control over which lens regions transmit light from the light-emitting layer outside the display device. In some embodiments, the use of interlaced and/or non-contiguous distributed lenses provides improved display resolution with a reduction in diffraction effects.

Optical method and system for light field displays based on distributed apertures

Systems and methods are described for providing a 3D display, such as a light-field display. In some embodiments, a display device includes a light-emitting layer that includes a plurality of separately-controllable pixels. A lens structure overlays the light-emitting layer. The lens structure includes an array of collimating optical elements. A phase-modifying layer is positioned between the light emitting layer and the lens structure. The pixels of the light emitting layer are used in generating spatial emission patterns that work in unison with the phase-modifying layer in order to generate beams of light through the collimating optical elements with extended focus depths. Multiple beams are used to generate voxels at various distances from the display surface with the correct eye convergence for the viewer. Beams with extended focus depths may be used to generate the correct eye retinal focus cues.

Optical method and system for light field displays based on beams with extended depth of focus

Display methods and apparatus are described. In some embodiments, to generate an image, light is selectively emitted from one or more light-emitting elements (such as a &#x3bc;LEDs) in a light-emitting layer. The emitted light from each element is collimated using, for example, an array of microlenses having small apertures. Each beam of collimated light is split by a first diffractive grating into a first generation of child beams, and the first generation of child beams is split by a second diffractive grating into a second generation of child beams. Beams in the second generation of child beams that are not parallel to the original beam of collimated light may be blocked by a spatial light modulator (e.g. an LCD panel). The un-blocked beams operate in some respects as if they had been generated using optics with an aperture larger than the apertures of the microlenses.

Method and system for aperture expansion in light field displays

The specification and drawings present a new method, apparatus and software product for optical focusing and stabilizing using a hydraulic component, called focusing stabilizer, in an image focusing module of the electronic devices. This focusing stabilizer is capable of doing focus adjustment and/or image stabilization. The focusing stabilizer can comprise two optical elements (e.g., two plates or prisms, two lenses, or one plate or prism and one lens) and a liquid between them. The refractive index and thickness of the liquid changes a length of the optical path from the object to the photosensitive surface such that the system focus shift depends on a liquid lens thickness in the direction of the optical axis. In addition, adjusting two optical components using a predetermined criterion provides a stabilization of the focused image.

The invention relates to a method, server and device arrangement for transmitting high-class multimedia messages of a mass event. When this method is utilized, the data transfer capacity of the cell of a cellular network serving the participants of the mass event need not be increased so that it would correspond to the capacity of the multimedia messages to be transmitted. In a method according to the invention, the cell that serves the mass event mainly transmits only text messages by which the multimedia messages to be sent from a multimedia server to some other terminal devices are defined.

According to the present invention, there is provided a method and device for the viewing, editing and dissemination of an editable object in real-time mobile collaboration sessions. The invention comprises a set of mobile terminals and a protocol which enables users to simultaneously edit the same editable object. An advantageous embodiment of this invention allows for synchronization to occur in real time. Further, synchronization and version control problems are avoided as the invention considers each user's edited version to be a genuine version of the data. The end result of the editing process may be several different versions, and not just one single authoritative version.

Method and device for real-time shared editing mobile video

An apparatus for quantifying irradiance has a first sensor having an output for providing a reference signal of irradiance within a first band, such as the visible light band. A filter and a second sensor are in optical series so that irradiance sensed at the second sensor is filtered. The second sensor outputs a filtered signal of irradiance within the first band. The filter particularly filters irradiance in the first band as a function of irradiance in the second band, such as the UV light band. In an exemplary embodiment, the filter is made from a material that darkens with increasing UV irradiance. A processor has inputs coupled to the outputs of the first and second sensors for determining irradiance in the second band from the reference signal and the filtered signal. Mathematical formulations for the processor are provided, as are methods and a computer program embodied on a medium. A single sensor embodiment is also described.
