The present invention relates to bipolar plate () as well as to a fuel cell assembly (). The bipolar plate comprises two outer surfaces () which are electrically connected to one another, for the electrical contacting, as well as the discharge and supply of gases and/or fluids to the surfaces of the fuel cells which are adjacent to the outer surfaces. The insulating material is here compressed, before or after being deposited on the flat material, to form a coherent insulating plate.
