An aqueous dispersion comprising a tetrafluoroethylene core-shell polymer and at least one surfactant corresponding to the general formula R0-[CHCH0][R0]-Rwherein Rrepresents a linear or branched aliphatic hydrocarbon group having at least 8 carbon atoms, preferably 8 to 18 carbon atoms, R2 represents an alkylene having 3 carbon atoms, R3 represents hydrogen, a C1-C3 alkyl group, or a C1-C3 hydroxyalkyl group, n has a value of 0 to 40, m has a value of 0 to 40 and the sum of n+m is at least 2, wherein the dispersion is free of fluorinated emulsifiers or contains them in an amount of less than 50 ppm based on the weight of the dispersion and wherein the core-shell polymer contains an outer shell of tetrafluoroethylene homopolymer. Further provided are methods of making the dispersions, coating compositions comprising the dispersions and article coated by the coating composition.

Tetrafluoroethylene polymer dispersions stabilized with aliphatic non-ionic surfactants

A method of making a copolymer is disclosed. The method includes copolymerizing components including tetrafluoroethylene and a compound represented by formula CF&#x2550;CF&#x2014;O&#x2014;(CF)&#x2014;SOX, wherein 'a' is a number from 1 to 4, and X is &#x2014;NZH, &#x2014;NZ&#x2014;SO&#x2014;(CF)&#x2014;SOX', or &#x2014;OZ, wherein Z is independently a hydrogen, an alkali metal cation, or a quaternary ammonium cation, and wherein X&#x2032; is independently &#x2014;NZH or &#x2014;OZ. The components include at least 60 mole % of tetrafluoroethylene based on the total amount of components. A copolymer prepared by the method is also provided. A method of making a membrane using the copolymer is also provided. The present disclosure also provides a polymer electrolyte membrane that includes a copolymer made by the method and a membrane electrode assembly that includes such a polymer electrolyte membrane.

Method of making a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene having sulfonyl pendant groups

Described herein is a peroxide curable, highly fluorinated elastomer derived from tetrafluoroethylene, a perfluoro ether monomer, and a compound selected from at least one of a highly fluorinated bisolefin ether and an iodine-containing perfluorinated ether.

Rf is a linear or branched perfluoroalkyl group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms and optionally interrupted by one or more &#x2014;0&#x2014; groups, n is independently from 1 to 6, and z is 0, 1, or 2. The copolymer has a melt flow index in a range from 20 grams per 10 minutes to 40 grams per 10 minutes. The copolymer can be extruded to make articles, such as insulated cables. A method of making the copolymer is also disclosed. 

Tetrafluoroethylene and perfluorinated allyl ether copolymers

A copolymer having tetrafluoroethylene units, hexafluoropropylene units, and units independently represented by formula in a range from 0.02 to 2 mole percent, based on the total amount of the copolymer. Rf is a linear or branched perfluoroalkyl group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms and optionally interrupted by one or more &#x2014;O&#x2014; groups, n is from 1 to 6, and m is 0 or 1. The copolymer has a melt flow index in a range from 25 grams per 10 minutes to 35 grams per 10 minutes and has up to 50 unstable end groups per 10carbon atoms. The copolymer can be extruded to make articles, such as insulated cables. A method of making the copolymer is also disclosed. 

Tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluoropropylene copolymers including perfluoroalkoxyalkyl pendant groups and methods of making and using the same

The invention relates to a curable dental composition comprising a cationically hardenable compound (A) comprising at least two aziridine moieties, a starter (B) being suitable to cure the hardenable compound (A), polymeric particles as filler component (C), the polymeric particles having a maximum particle size of 150 &#x3bc;m or below and the component(s) the polymeric particles are made of being based on fluoropolymers comprising more than 99% monomer repeating units of tetra fluoro ethylene. The invention also relates to the use of such composition for producing a dental impression material or a dental retraction material.

Cationically curing dental composition containing polymeric particles and use thereof

A copolymer having tetrafluoroethylene units, hexafluoropropylene units, and units independently represented by formula in a range from 0.02 to 2 mole percent, based on the total amount of the copolymer. Rf is a linear or branched perfluoroalkyl group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms and optionally interrupted by one or more &#x2014;O&#x2014; groups, z is 1 or 2, each n is independently from 1 to 6, and m is 0 or 1. A copolymer having tetrafluoroethylene units, hexafluoropropylene units, and units independently represented by formula in a range from 0.001 to 2 mole percent, based on the total amount of the copolymer. In these units, a is 0 or 1, each b is independently from 1 to 4, c is 0 to 4, d is 0 or 1, and e is 1 to 6. In the &#x2014;SOX groups, X is independently &#x2014;F, &#x2014;NH, &#x2014;OH, or &#x2014;OZ, wherein Z is independently a metallic cation or a quaternary ammonium cation. The copolymer has a melt flow index in a range from 20 grams per 10 minutes to 40 grams per 10 minutes. The copolymer can be extruded to make articles, such as insulated cables. A method of making the copolymer is also disclosed. 

Tetrafluoroethylene/hexafluoropropylene copolymers having pendant sulfonyl groups

Described herein is a polymer comprising: interpolymerized units of (i) a fluorinated terminal alkene monomer and (ii) a tertiary amine-containing fluorinated monomer comprising at least one of a vinyl amine, a substituted vinyl amine, an allyl amine, a substituted allyl amine, and combinations thereof; wherein the polymer can be amorphous or semi-crystalline with a melting point no greater than 325&#xb0; C. Dispersions thereof and methods of making and using the same are also described.

Tetrafluoroethylene copolymers having sulfonyl groups

A composition includes an amorphous fluoropolymer having at least one of: a segment represented by formula I: &#x2014;CF(R)&#x2014;(CX)&#x2014;(CXCXR)&#x2014;O&#x2014;R&#x2033;O&#x2014;(CXR'CX)&#x2014;(CX)&#x2014;CF(R&#x2032;)&#x2014; (I); or a terminal segment represented by formula III: R&#x2014;CF(I)&#x2014;(CX)&#x2014;(CXCXR)&#x2014;O&#x2014;R&#x2033;O&#x2014;(CXR&#x2032;CX)&#x2014;(CX)&#x2014;CF(R&#x2032;)&#x2014; (III), and fluoroplastic particles having a mean particle size of less than 500 nanometers. Each X is independently F, H, or Cl; Rand R&#x2032;are each independently F or a monovalent perfluoroalkyl having 1 to 3 carbon atoms; R is F or a partially fluorinated or perfluorinated alkyl having 1 to 3 carbon atoms; R&#x2033;is a divalent fluoroalkylene having 1 to 8 carbon atoms or a divalent fluorinated alkylene ether having 1 to 20 carbon atoms and at least one ether linkage; k is 0 or 1; and n, m, p, and q are each independently an integer from 0 to 5, with the proviso that when k is 0, n+m is at least 1 and p+q is at least 1. A method of making the composition is also provided.

Composition including amorphous fluoropolymer and fluoroplastic particles and methods of making the same

Described herein is a composition comprising (i) a hydrofluorothermoplastic polymer, wherein the hydrofluorothermoplastic polymer is derived from: (a) 50-85 mol % tetrafluoroethene; (b) 2-15 mol % hexafluoropropene; (c) 10-35 mol % vinylidene fluoride; and (d) 0.1 to 5 mol % of a bromine-containing monomer; and (ii) a perhalogenated thermoplastic polymer. Such compositions can be used in multilayer constructions in, for example, fuel hose applications.

Fluorothermoplastic polymer compositions

A fluoropolymer coating composition is described comprising an aqueous liquid medium, fluoropolymer particles dispersed in the aqueous liquid medium, and at least one aziridine compound. The aziridine compound comprises at least two aziridine groups (i.e. polyaziridine) or at least one aziridine group and at least one alkoxy silane group. In another embodiment, an article is described comprising a substrate wherein a surface of the substrate comprises a coating comprising fluoropolymer particles; and a reaction product of at least one aziridine compound comprising at least two aziridine groups or at least one aziridine group and at least one alkoxy silane group. The coating can be utilized as a primer for bonding a non-fluorinated substrate to a fluoropolymer film and/or the coating can be used as an (e.g. outer exposed) surface layer. In some embodiments, the article may be the (e.g. backside) film of a photovoltaic module.

Fluoropolymer coatings comprising aziridine compounds

Described herein is method of making a halogenated partially fluorinated compound, comprising: (a) providing a compound having the following structure of formula (I): R&#x2014;CF&#x2550;CXY wherein X and Y are independently selected from F and Cl; wherein Ris a fluorinated monovalent group comprising 1 to 10 carbon atoms; (b) contacting the compound with at least one of (i) an iodine or bromine containing salt in the presence of an acid; and (ii) aqueous solution of HZ wherein Z is selected from I and Br to form the halogenated partially fluorinated compound of the formula (II): R'&#x2014;CFH&#x2014;CXYZ wherein X and Y are independently selected from F and Cl; Z is selected from I and Br; and R&#x2032;is a fluorinated monovalent group comprising 1 to 10 carbon atoms.
