A dual head-up display (HUD) system includes a plurality of on-board sensors, a wireless communication module, a driver monitoring system, and a system controller in electronic communication with the plurality of on-board sensors, the driver monitoring system and the wireless communication module, and adapted to identify parking spaces within proximity to the vehicle, display, with an augmented reality HUD, first information related to identified parking spaces, display, with a reflective HUD, second information related to the identified parking spaces, determine, if the vehicle is performing a parking maneuver, and when the vehicle is performing a parking maneuver into a selected parking space, to display, with the augmented reality HUD, first and second parking assist graphics adapted to provide guidance to a driver of the vehicle while parking the vehicle in the selected parking space.

A glare mitigation module for a head-up display system is configured to transmit display light emitted from an illumination device therethrough. The glare mitigation module comprises an input surface through which the display light from the illumination device enters the glare mitigation module and an output surface through which the display light from the illumination device exits the glare mitigation module in a display direction. The glare mitigation module further comprises a diffractive optical element comprising a plurality of layers stacked successively between the input and output surfaces, with the plurality of layers arranged to transmit the display light of the illumination device therethrough and to diffract an external light that enters the glare mitigation module through the output surface. The diffractive optical element is arranged to diffract the external light in a diffracted direction away from eyes of an occupant.

The controller is programmed to receive a voice command from the occupant using the microphone, determine at least one characteristic of the requested object based on the voice command, capture an image of the environment using the camera, where the environment includes a relevant object, and to identify a location of the relevant object in the environment based at least in part on the image and the at least one characteristic of the requested object. The controller is further programmed to display a graphic based at least in part on the location of the relevant object in the environment using the display.

The first layer diffracts the first display light having the first polarization in a first exit direction at a first exit angle relative to the axis toward the eyes of the first occupant. The second layer diffracts the second display light having the second polarization in a second exit direction at a second exit angle relative to the axis, and different than the first exit angle, toward the eyes of the second occupant.

A method is designed to provide platooning information using a multi-focal plane augmented reality display of a host vehicle. The method includes receiving platooning data from at least one of a plurality of remote vehicles. Each of the plurality of remote vehicle is part of a platoon. The platooning data includes locations, trajectories, and headways of each of the plurality of remote vehicles. The method further includes determining whether the platoon is within a predetermined distance from the host vehicle using the platooning data. Further, the method includes transmitting a command signal to the multi-focal plane augmented reality display of the host vehicle to display a virtual image on the multi-focal plane augmented reality display. The virtual image is indicative of a platooning action related to the platoon that is within the predetermined distance from the host vehicle.

A head-up display system includes a hologram projector adapted to project a holographic image, a waveguide positioned in front of the hologram projector, wherein the holographic image projected by the hologram projector passes through the waveguide, a glare control prism positioned in front of the waveguide assembly, and a waveplate positioned between the waveguide and the glare control prism, the waveplate adapted to adjust the polarization of the holographic image.

A head-up display for displaying graphics upon a windscreen of a vehicle includes a graphic projection module for generating images upon the windscreen of the vehicle, a user input device for receiving user-generated commands created by a user of the vehicle, and one or more controllers in electronic communication with the graphic projection module and the user input device. The controller executes instructions to instruct the graphic projection module to generate a luminance adjustment graphic, where the luminance adjustment graphic includes an adaptive color palette graphic including two or more colors. The controller receives, from the user input device, a user-generated luminance input indicating a change in a level of luminance in a selected color, where the change in the level of luminance in the selected color is selected by the user to discern differences between the two or more colors caused by a color vision deficiency.

A system for calibrating a waveguide-based holographic head-up display that projects images upon a windscreen of a vehicle including a light-diffusing panel positioned at the center of an eyellipse to reflect the images projected by the waveguide-based holographic head-up display. An eyebox of the waveguide-based holographic head-up display is positioned at the center of the eyellipse, and the eyebox is divided into a plurality of unit exit pupils. The system also includes a camera positioned to capture the images reflected by the light-diffusing panel and one or more controllers in electronic communication with the waveguide-based holographic head-up display and the camera. The one or more controllers execute instructions to determine a warp map based on a plurality of corrected individual calibration patterns.

A head-up display system includes a first plurality of on-board sensors adapted to detect vehicle driving characteristics, a wireless communication module adapted to receive information from external sources, a driver monitoring system adapted to track a driver's eyes, and a controller in electronic communication with the first plurality of on-board sensors and the wireless communication module, the controller adapted to determine if the vehicle is performing a parking maneuver, and, when the vehicle is performing a parking maneuver, to capture images of an environment surrounding the vehicle, detect objects within the environment, identify location markers for a parking space and objects within the environment surrounding the vehicle adjacent to the parking space, determine the position of the vehicle relative to the identified location markers and objects, and display, with a projection module a parking assist graphic adapted to provide guidance to a driver of the vehicle.
