The invention makes available for the first time pure green decoration coloring substances for high-temperature firing at least at 1000.degree. C., in particular at 1100 to 1250.degree. C., with a color hue angle h in the range of 160.degree..+-.20.degree.. The decoration coloring substance comprises chromium oxide as the pigment and one or several glass frits as glass flux, and additionally a cobalt compound from the series CoO, Co(OH).sub.2 and Co compounds forming CoO below or at the firing temperature, with the atomic ratio of Co to Cr being in the range of 0.01 to 0.35, preferably 0.15 to 0.25.

The resistance of tableware decorations to cutlery abrasion traces can be increased by using, in the production of the decoration, a decoration coloring substance containing a pigment and a glass flux with the characteristics profile according to the invention: the pigment of the decoration coloring substance has an average grain diameter equal to or less than 2 .mu.m, and the glass flux of the decoration coloring substance has a density equal to or less than 2.6 g/cm.sup.3 and a hemisphere temperature less than 930.degree. C.

New electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding pigments based on silver coated carrier pigments are disclosed which have a wider activity spectrum and are more economically available than previously known shielding pigments. The carrier pigments used are platelet shaped, ferro- or ferrimagnetic, Fe-containing, naturally occurring or synthetically produced laminar minerals. The Ag coating amounts to 5 to 25% by weight, based on the carrier pigment. Shielding pigments, which may be prepared by conventional chemical deposition of Ag or by sputtering, may be used for the production of EMI protective coatings and EMI protective films.

EMI shielding pigments, a process for their preparation and their use

Purple pigments based on glass frits having an average particle diameter (D.sub.50 value) of 0.5 to 50 .mu.m, of which the surface has a coating of essentially 0.05 to 5% by weight, based on the pigment, of colloidal gold and, if desired, color-modifying metals from the group consisting of Ag, Cu, Co, Ni, Sn, Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, Ir and Pt in a total quantity below that of the gold. The purple pigments do not require the hitherto necessary calcination step and can be used for pigmenting glazes, enamels, glass colors, decorative colors, plastics, printing inks and lacquers.

Purple pigments, a process for their production and use thereof

A decorative orange paint is obtained by using 15 to 30% by weight of an orange pigment together with 70 to 85% by weight of a glass frit. The orange pigment comprises 10 to 13% by weight of alkali metal oxide, 10 to 14% by weight of ferric oxdide, 30 to 35% by weight of aluminum oxide, and 40 to 45% by weight of silica. the glass frit comprises 35 to 60% by weight of silica, 15 to 35% by weight of boron oxide, 3 to 8% by weight of zirconium oxide, 2 to 8% by weight of aluminum oxide, 10 to 18% by weight of sodium or potassium oxide or a mixture thereof, and 2 to 6% by weight of lithium oxide.

Orange decorative paint without noxious substances

A method of producing luminous, wear-resistant decorations on ceramic or silicate bases is disclosed. A luster metal preparation or a precious metal preparation is first coated onto the base material. A decorative color preparation is then coated onto the luster metal or precious metal coated base. The decorative color preparation includes a mixture of a glass flux combined with mica platelets, wherein the mica platelets are provided with a thin coating of a metallic oxide. The metallic oxide may be light-impermeable or light permeable. The luster metal or precious metal coating may be stoved prior to the coating with the decorative color, or the luster metal or precious metal coating and the decorative coating may be stoved simultaneously. The stoving takes place at a temperature in the range of 500.degree. to 1100.degree. C. One alternative embodiment of the invention includes forming the luster or precious metal coatings and the decorative color preparations on a decal release paper, and then transferring the decal to the base. Another alternative embodiment includes coating with the decorative color preparation before coating with the luster or precious metal.
