Registration method and navigation system

The invention related to a balloon dilation device having a distal end and a proximal end. The balloon dilation device comprises a handle, a shaft, an inflatable balloon and at least one sensor coil. The handle extends from the proximal end of the balloon dilation device towards the distal end of the balloon dilation device. The shaft extends from the distal end of the balloon dilation device towards the proximal end of the balloon dilation device, said shaft having an inflation lumen. The inflatable balloon is fixedly arranged at the shaft. The balloon is fluidly connected to the inflation lumen such that the balloon can be inflated and deflated by feeding a fluid through the inflation lumen into the balloon. The at least one sensor coil is arranged at the shaft. The at least one sensor coil is configured for capturing an electromagnetic field and for providing a sensor coil signal representing position and orientation of the sensor coil.

Balloon dilation device

The invention relates to an auxiliary instrument for insertion into vessels or lumens with small inner diameters. The auxiliary instrument has a proximal end and a distal end and has at least one localization element whose position and orientation can be determined with an electromagnetic position detection system. The localization element is located directly adjacent to or at least close to the distal end of the auxiliary instrument and is configured to capture an alternating electromagnetic field. A distal end region of the auxiliary instrument extends from the distal end of the auxiliary instrument to a proximal end of the localization element such that the localization element is located within the distal end region. In that part of the distal end region in which the localization element is located, the auxiliary instrument has a low bending stiffness of less than 10 Nmm, at least in sections. At least two lines are led from the localization element to the proximal end of the auxiliary instrument and are electrically conductively connected at least to the localization element. The localization element has a length with an amount that is at least ten times the amount of an outer diameter of the localization element.

Flexible application device for the high-frequency treatment of biological tissue

A high frequency current application apparatus for thermal sclerosing of body tissue, comprising a high frequency generator connected to at least two electrodes, one of which is to be introduced into body tissue. The apparatus includes a measuring and calculating device adapted to ascertain impedance (or ohmic resistance) between the two electrodes between which a respective therapeutic high frequency current flows. A control device is connected to the measuring and calculating device for varying the output power. During high frequency current application the measuring and calculating device forms the first derivative with respect of time of the impedance. The control device reduces output power when that derivative exceeds a positive threshold characteristic of a threat of tissue desiccation and restores output power to the original power when the first derivative exceeds in positive values a negative threshold characteristic of adequate rehydration of body tissue.

Device for the electro-surgical sclerosing of body tissues

An electrode array is used for the thermal schlerosing of body tissue. The electrode array has at least three active electrodes that, during use, are placed in electrical-conducting connection with body tissue. A high frequency generator is electrically connected for selective application of current to the active electrodes for producing a high frequency voltage. A measuring device measures impedance of the tissue between the active electrodes. In addition, a selector device selects a sub-array including at least two active electrodes from the electrode array, the selecting being effected on the basis of the measured impedance. Further, a control device is configured such that a high frequency voltage is respectively applied between the active electrodes of the selected sub-array in such a way that a high frequency current flows between the selected active electrodes through the body tissue.

Bipolar coagulation electrode

The invention concerns a surgical probe having electrodes for use in tissue ablation or coagulation. The probe has hollow spaces therein for delivering a cooling fluid to the probe. The probe has a handle and shaft and two axially-spaced electrodes on the surface of the shaft, separated from each other by an insulator.

Surgical probe

The disclosure provides a probe arrangement having a distal probe tip and a proximal hand portion for the electrothermal coagulation of tissue. The probe arrangement has at least a first and a second electrode in the region of the distal probe tip. An inner conductor of the probe arrangement extends from the distal probe tip to the proximal hand portion and contacts the first electrode in the distal probe tip. An outer conductor of the probe arrangement extends from the distal probe tip to the proximal hand portion and serves to electrically contact the second electrode in the distal probe tip. The inner and outer conductors of the probe arrangement are electrically insulated from each other. Furthermore the inner conductor is selected in such a way that the flexural stiffness of the probe arrangement is increased between the probe tip and the hand portion.

The invention concerns an electrode arrangement for a surgical instrument for the electrothermal coagulation of human or animal tissue, comprising an elongate carrier, at least two electrodes which extend in the longitudinal direction of the carrier and which are connectable to an external ac voltage, and a plurality of self-supporting metal bar profile members which extend in the longitudinal direction of the carrier and which are connected together by means of one or more insulating spacer elements and form the electrodes. It is achieved in that at least one bar profile member is in the form of a hollow profile member or a solid profile member.

Electrode arrangement for surgical instrument

A hollow surgical probe for the minimally invasive removal of tissue has an elongate hollow body and an electrical conductive ring-shaped or loop-shaped cutting element. The elongate hollow body includes two segments of which at least one encloses a cavity for receiving tissue and which can be separated from each other and which are movably relative to each other in such a way that an opening between the segments is to be selectively opened or closed. The electrically conductive ring-shaped or loop-shaped cutting element is movable relative to at least one of the segments and is adapted for electrosurgically cutting out tissue which has penetrated into the opening between the hollow body segments.

Hollow surgical probe

An electrode arrangement is provided having at least one electrode for insertion into a human or animal body for electrothermal treatment of the body. The electrode is situated on an electrode support and is connected to an alternating current source via a supply lead and to a temperature stabilizer device for influencing the effective temperature profile in a treatment area. The electrode support and the electrode, or electrodes, are constructed for direct insertion into body tissue, said insertion being channel forming. The temperature stabilizer device has a timed heating device.
