The present invention provides novel methods for treating and preventing colorectal cancer in a subject by administering a composition comprising β-galactosidase, a bacterial culture capable of producing β-galactosidase, such as anculture, or a fraction of the culture comprising β-galactosidase. A kit useful for such methods is also provided. In addition, the present invention provides a composition for treating or preventing colon cancer.

Therapeutic and prophylactic treatment for colorectal cancer

The present invention provides for compositions and methods for treating colorectal cancer or for reducing the risk of developing the disease in an individual. More specifically, compositions comprising an effective amount of beneficial bacteria such as, andare provided for the purpose of treating colorectal cancer in a person or for the purpose of reducing a person's risk of later developing colorectal cancer. Corresponding kits and methods are also provided.
