An indexable insert has a triangular shape with a top surface and a bottom surface, as well as a circumferential surface that connects said the top and bottom surfaces, and cutting edges around the corners. At least in the region of its edges on the top and bottom surface, the indexable insert is identical such that all six cutting edges can be used for the same rotational cutting direction. The secondary cutting edges adjoin two main cutting edges and extend at different angles with respect to the same. In addition, a surface corner milling cutter with a corresponding indexable insert is described.

The invention relates to a cutting insert, in particular for machining crankshafts, having two base surfaces () which are arranged parallel to one another and through which a respective hole () passes for receiving a clamping screw and which merge at their shorter edges into rounded end faces which are each defined laterally by cutting edges. According to the invention, at least one pair of the cutting edges is of stepped design and has two convex sections () and a concave section () lying in between, wherein the outer convex section () extends over an angle of 180&#xb0;.

Cutting insert

The invention relates to a milling cutting insert having a square or triangular shaped cutting face delimited in the plan view by a peripheral cutting edge having linear cutting edges () and curved cutting corners (). According to the invention, each of the cutting edges () comprises an inclined region () sloping toward a cutting corner (), extending beyond the tangential point () determined by the point at which the linear cutting edge () transitions into a curved cutting corner (), wherein adjacent thereto the cutting edge () rises prior to the point () determined by a cutting corner angle bisector (), wherein said rising region () extends to a cutting edge maximum () on the other side of the cutting corner () on the adjacent cutting edge (), which is linear in plan view, from where the cutting edge () continues, again inclined and sloping downward, resulting in a rotationally symmetric form having identically shaped cutting edges.

Milling cutting insert

Cutting insert for machining a workpiece

The invention relates to a method for machining crankshafts during which the machining of the bearing width and of the oil collar should be carried out simultaneously. To this end, a disk-shaped outer milling cutter having a number of cutting tools () is used of which a portion serves to machine a bearing base of the crankshaft and the other portion serves to machine an oil collar adjacent to the bearing base. According to the invention, a set angle (&#x3ba;) for the cutting tools for machining the oil collar is selected according to the actual dimension, during which the effective depth of cut hfor each cutting insert is limited to a predeterminable maximum value. The invention also relates to a device for carrying out this method.
