A Marx configuration has a housing surrounding an interior, and a Marx generator arranged in the interior. The Marx generator has a plurality of capacitor stages connected in series, each having at least one first and one second voltage terminal, and respective cross branches. Each two adjacent capacitor stages between the first terminal of the preceding and the second terminal of the following capacitor stage are connected by one of the cross branches. Each of the cross branches contains a spark gap, a sealed gas space for an insulating gas for the spark gaps which are arranged in the interior and at least two of the spark gaps. All spark gaps are arranged in a respective gas space, and the interior contains a sealed fluid space for a cooling fluid for the Marx generator. A base support disposed in the interior and surrounds the gas space partially.

A Marx generator has at least two branches for providing a Marx voltage at an output pole. Each of the branches has a plurality of capacitor stages with voltage poles, cross branches with spark gaps, a last capacitor stage at its output end, and a first capacitor stage connected to an operating voltage. The branches have a common triggering section with a common first capacitor stage, a first adjacent cross branch, and an input pole. Each of the branches has the triggering section and also an individual portion with at least one capacitor stage that is only associated with the branch. A resonator arrangement contains the Marx generator and resonators at the respective output poles of the branches. A radiation arrangement has the resonator arrangement and a multi-feed waveguide with at least two of the resonators for respectively feeding an electromagnetic wave.

A microwave generator has a resonator with two mutually spaced resonator electrodes. The resonator electrodes provide a spark gap device which breaks down upon the application of a firing voltage between them. The spark gap device has at least two parallel-connected spark gaps.

In order to make it possible to direct sufficient microwave energy at a target with an electronic device which is to be interfered with or to be destroyed, the beams () from at least two antenna arrays () are focused on an effective area () in the vicinity of that target, preferably from a vehicle () which is equipped with these arrays (). For effective super-imposition of the emitted microwave energy () in the emission direction of in each case one of the arrays (), the use of an arc for discharging the capacitance () of the resonator via its spark gap () is observed, and is recorded quasi-continuously optoelectronically. The electrode separation of the spark gap () or the fluid pressure of the dielectric in the vicinity of the spark gap () is then varied by control elements such that all of the spark gaps () in an array () ignite virtually at the same time, so that their discharge current pulses which lead to the emission of the microwave energy () start virtually in phase.

The two electrodes () define a spark gap () and are connected to a high-voltage source (). An ultracompact microwave generator () is implemented by the high-voltage source () being arranged in the hollow central electrode () of the microwave generator () rather than on the outside thereof.

A microwave generator has at least one resonator with two mutually opposite resonator electrodes which are separated by a spark gap. The spark gap breaks down when a high-voltage is applied. The resonator electrodes are designed in the area of the spark gap such that they result in a two-dimensional or three-dimensional section with a substantially constant, minimum electrode separation.

Intensive microwave radiation in particular of great band width and energy over a relatively long period of time in the form of long pulse packets with a high pulse repetition frequency and a very high frequency spectrum can be achieved if microwave irradiation is effected during the discharge of a capacitive high-voltage generator () by way of the antenna () into a series of successive capacitors () to be connected in parallel. They are preferably constructed in the form of a concentric stack, connected to the antenna (), of which the outer electrodes () which are at a reference potential are in the form of a continuous tube within which annular electrodes () are disposed on a carrier () in axially spaced relationship with each other in such a way that at the same time they act as the electrodes of arc switches () for successively switching on subsequent capacitors (). The switch response characteristics and the charging time constants of the capacitor () which is respectively switched on therewith and the number thereof determine the length of the packet of high-frequency individual pulses () and thus the radiated microwave energy which can be still further increased by an increase in the capacitance of the capacitors ().
