A method and relates apparatuses for detecting a link status on an Ethernet connection where at least part of a transmission path is implemented via a wireless connection, the first wireless link device performing: establishing a wireless connection to a second wireless link device; establishing a wired connection to a first Ethernet-compliant network device; sending a remote link status message indicating the status of the wired connection between the first wireless link device and the Ethernet-compliant network device repeatedly to the second wireless link device; monitoring a remote link status message received from the second wireless link device, said remote link status message indicating the status of the wired connection between the second wireless link device and a second Ethernet-compliant network device.

Apparatuses may perform and methods may include receiving a digital broadcast signal that includes a physical layer pipe identified by a predetermined identifier indicating that the physical layer pipe includes service guide bootstrap information. The bootstrap information may identify one or more service guides available for download. The physical layer pipe may include header information that identifies one or more other physical layer pipes containing portions of the service guides identified in the bootstrap information. Based on the bootstrap information and header information, a selected service guide is retrieved and presented to a user.

Accessing service guide information in a digital video broadcast system

Systems and methods are provided that combine Open Mobile Alliance Mobile Broadcast Services (OMA BCAST) with different bearers, such as China Multimedia Mobile Broadcasting (CMMB) by associating service-related identifiers within an OMA BCAST Electronic Service Guide (ESG) with CMMB bearer-specific parameters. Furthermore, associating IP source and/or destination address pairs of a service with the location of the service within the CMMB bearer can be achieved and used with unicast, multicast, and broadcast environments. Further still, systems and methods are provided that allow for ESG bootstrapping, where a desired electronic service guide can be discovered by bootstrapping, e.g., OMA BCAST ESG.

Method and system to enable adaptation between physical bearers and OMA-BCAST

Services and service components in a broadcast network may be mapped to disparate physical layer transmission channels (PLPs) using logical layer pipes (LLPs). The use of LLPs allows different service components of a single service to be mapped to physical layer transmission channels (PLPs). Accordingly, service components may be shared among different services. Additionally or alternatively, different functions (e.g., different error detection or correction protocols) may be applied to each service components of a service. A receiver may identify services, service components and corresponding PLPs based on LLP identifiers. The receiver may then access and receive desired services and service components through the identified PLPs.

Mapping service components in a broadcast environment

Apparatuses may perform and methods may include: receiving a digital broadcast signal that includes an Electronic Service Guide (ESG); extracting and assembling the ESG; extracting from the ESG signaling information which links one or more services in an upper level layer of a broadcast protocol to a physical layer of the broadcast protocol. Components of a transmitted service delivering multiple versions of content are mapped to streams carrying data for those multiple versions. The data streams are encapsulated into User Datagram Protocol (UDP) packets; the UDP destination port fields of the packets are given component-identifying values. A user equipment (UE) receiving the transmitted service identifies desired components based on the UDP destination port field values. The UE further encapsulates desired component UDP packets into Internet Protocol (IP) packets, and may assign component-identifying values to fields of the IP packets (e.g., the IP source address and/or IP destination address).

Broadcast content encapsulation

Data for a second Multi-Protocol Encapsulation-Forward Error Correcting (MPE-FEC) data frame is received while application data from a first MPE-FEC frame is undergoing error correction. The incoming data is buffered in a supplemental buffer having a size smaller than that needed for an entire MPE-FEC frame. As the supplemental buffer is filled, additional data from the second frame is stored in a buffer previously used to store error correction data for the first MPE-FEC frame. When corrected application data from the first MPE-FEC frame is transferred from an application data buffer used to hold application data undergoing correction, the second MPE-FEC frame data is transferred from the supplemental and error correction data buffers to the application data buffer. Additional data for the second frame is then placed directly into the application and error correction data buffers.

Buffering of data from a data stream having error correction elements

For example, a mobile node and/or other computer receiving a time slice burst of an elementary stream may act to obtain a delta-t time value specifying time to elapse until a subsequent burst, and/or may act to obtain information corresponding to burst length. As another example, the mobile node and/or other computer may set in view of the delta-t time value an alarm elapsed time value for activating reception circuitry. As yet another example, the mobile node and/or other computer may set in view of the information corresponding to burst length an alarm elapsed time value for deactivating reception circuitry.
