A system can comprise tabs and notches or a twist-and-lock mount for detachably mounting components adjacent a light emitting diode that is utilized for illumination, for example in a luminaire. Representative mounted components can include protective covers and optics for managing light emitted by the light emitting diode. The tabs and notches can be located rear of an aperture in a recessed lighting fixture or in a cover of a luminaire, for example. That cover, or another cover that may not utilize a releasable mount, can extend circumferentially about a periphery of a light emitting diode to cover and protect wiring for the light emitting diode and to hide the wiring from view by people occupying an illuminated space.

Systems for detachably mounting lighting components and for covering wiring

A connector system that is configured for deployment in a cramped space, e.g., a shallow overhead plenum. The connector system includes a conduit connector that is configured to connect to a light module to provide electrical power to the light module. The conduit connector includes a housing assembly that receives and retains an electrical wire carrying conduit on one end and houses one or more wire connectors on an opposite end. In particular, the one or more wire connectors are disposed vertically in the housing assembly such that a portion of the one or more wire connectors projects out from underneath the housing assembly and forms a substantially right angle with the housing assembly and/or the conduit. Further, the connector system includes a locking clip that is coupled to the light module. The locking clip connects the conduit connector to the light module without the use of a tool.

Configurable low profile conduit connector system for light fixtures

An optical attachment feature of a light-emitting diode (LED) lighting system includes an enclosure, a trim, a reflector, and a diffuser. The enclosure can include an enclosure wall forming a cavity and an enclosure collar having a first profile. The trim can include a trim collar that abuts to the enclosure collar, wherein the trim collar has a second profile. The reflector can include an outer surface, an inner surface having reflective material disposed thereon, and a reflector collar having a first optical attachment mechanism. The diffuser can include a diffuser collar, where the diffuser collar can include a second optical attachment mechanism and a third optical attachment mechanism, where the second optical attachment mechanism can couple to the first optical attachment mechanism, and where the third optical attachment mechanism is disposed within a feature formed by the first profile and the second profile when the enclosure collar is mechanically coupled to the trim collar.

Optical attachment features for light-emitting diode-based lighting system

A light emitting diode (LED) lighting system includes an enclosure, a trim, and at least one attachment mechanism. The enclosure can include at least one heat-generating device and an enclosure collar, where the enclosure is made of a first thermally conductive material. The trim can include a trim collar and at least one wall that defines a passage, where the trim collar abuts the enclosure collar, and where the passage has a reflector and a LED is disposed therein. The least one attachment mechanism can removably couple the trim collar to the enclosure collar, where the at least one attachment mechanism includes a back plate that is mechanically coupled to an upper flange and a lower flange, where the upper flange contacts the enclosure collar and the lower flange contacts the trim collar.

Attachment mechanisms for light-emitting diode-based lighting system

A light fixture includes a light module and a trim assembly, where the trim assembly is removably coupled to the light module. The light module includes a module assembly that accommodates a light source. Further, the light module includes an additional heat sink that is optionally coupled to the module assembly. The trim assembly includes a lens, a reflector, and a trim. In particular, the reflector is coupled to the trim by inserting tabs extending downwards and substantially perpendicular from a collar of the reflector into through slots on a top collar of the trim such that the lens is securely retained and disposed in between the reflector and the trim.

Light-emitting diode based recessed light fixtures

An electrical device can have an associated wiring box for connecting the electrical device to an external electrical supply, for example to utility power. The wiring box can include an opening suitable for worker access, so that a worker can connect or disconnect the electrical device from electrical power. Wiring connectors can be rotatably mounted in the wiring box for making the electrical connection. The wiring connectors can be rotated to one orientation to enhance worker access through the opening, for example during installation, and to another orientation for long-term operation.

The luminaire includes a light emitting diode (LED) module that includes a heat sink with an outer wall defining a top cavity and a bottom cavity and a mounting flange generally positioned along the bottom of the outer wall. A LED light source is positioned within the bottom cavity and in thermal communication with the heat sink. The bottom surface of the mounting flange includes one or more alignment features or keys extending out from the bottom surface. A trim having a corresponding alignment aperture is matingly engaged by positioning all or a portion of the alignment feature into the alignment aperture to ensure proper orientation of the trim with the LED module and to provide sufficient surface area for good thermal transfer between the heat sink and the trim.

Reflectors and reflector orientation feature to prevent non-qualified trim

A connection to an electrical supply for a lighting system can be configured to facilitate deployment of the lighting system in a cramped space, for example in a shallow overhead plenum. The lighting system can comprise a housing for the light source. One or more sides of the housing can extend about the light source, for example circumferentially around the light source or otherwise laterally enclosing the light source. The electrical connection can be provided at a side of the housing, resulting in a low profile.

Compact system for connecting an electrical supply to a lighting system

The present disclosure provides a mounting device for mounting light fixtures into new or existing ceiling mounting openings. The mounting device allows new light fixtures to be retrofitted into existing ceiling openings by providing the appropriate interface between the light fixture and the ceiling opening. In certain example embodiments, the mounting device includes a ceiling coupling mechanism configured to secure the mounting device within an opening in a ceiling. The mounting device further includes a light fixture coupling element configured to couple to and retain a light fixture, thereby mounting the light fixture to the ceiling.

Retrofit mounting device for open frame ceiling

A light emitting diode (LED) lighting system includes a primary enclosure and a secondary enclosure. The primary enclosure can include a fastening feature of a secondary enclosure receiver that is positioned adjacent to an aperture in the primary enclosure. The secondary enclosure can include a corresponding fastening feature that mechanically couples to the fastening feature of the primary enclosure, where the secondary enclosure surrounds the aperture when the secondary enclosure is mechanically coupled to the primary enclosure. The secondary enclosure can further include a passage through which a wire that traverses the aperture in the primary enclosure passes.
