A MIMO communication system implements an interleaver design with multiple encoders for more than two transmit antennas for high throughput WLAN communication systems. Multiple encoders are utilized in the transmitter and multiple decoders are utilized in the receiver, wherein each encoder operates at lower clock speed than would be necessary with a single encoder. In conjunction with using multiple encoders, a modified interleaving function for each spatial stream processing allows fully exploring the diversity gains. The provided interleaving function is suitable for transmitter architectures with multiple encoders. Similarly, a modified de-interleaving function is provided that is suitable for receiver architectures with multiple decoders.

A method and system for constant-power loading for asymmetric antenna configurations. The sounding packet, the sounding bit in HT-SIG field, and the HT-LTF field in the PLCP protocol data unit (PPDU) are used to determine the number of transmit antennas and the number of data streams, wherein if the number of transmission streams is the same as the number of data streams, then a first set of power loading level (fixed uneven power loading) is applied, otherwise a second set of power loading level is applied. Alternatively, one additional bit in the HT-SIG filed of PLCP protocol data unit (PPDU) signaling field is used to signal the set of power loading level used.

Methods and apparatus for constant-power loading asymmetric antenna configuration

A method of detecting the power loadings at a receiver wherein estimation of power loadings based on the received reference signals is unnecessary. Channel condition is obtained for each channel and transmission power loading per channel is detected according to channel condition, wherein estimation of power loadings based on the received reference signals is unnecessary. A received encoded information bit stream is then decoded according to the detected power loading per channel.

Method and system for power loading implementation detection in beamforming systems

A STBC-based transmission method and transmission system provides equal protection on all data streams such that all streams operate at the same SNR. STBC and spatial multiplexing are combined in a transmitter which provides equal STBC coding protection on all data streams. Such a combination of STBC with spatial multiplexing for MIMO transmission results in performance enhancements, such as in high throughput WLANs.

A method and system for transmitting bit streams in a telecommunication system, by combining a bit stream with a first portion of a preamble, applying power loading to the combined bit stream, applying eigen-steering to the power loaded bit stream, and combining a second portion of the preamble with the eigen-steered bit stream for transmission. The first portion of the preamble includes an HT preamble, and the second portion of the preamble includes a legacy preamble.
