A power tool has a speed reduction gear mechanism including a plurality of stages of planetary gear arrangements, a slide gear member disposed in a tool body to be axially movable therein to change revolution speed of the speed reduction mechanism, and a movable member operatively connected to the slide gear member for moving the same, the movable member having a ring shape and being disposed on an outer side of the slide gear member whereby the slide gear member can be smoothly moved.

An apparatus for safeguarding an exposed portion of the cutting blade of a joint planer is disclosed. The safeguard apparatus covers the exposed portion of the cutting blade behind the guide surface of the joint planer. The safeguard is pivotally connected to the guide surface, allowing the angle of the safeguard relative to the table to remain constant while the angle of the guide surface relative to the table changes. This safeguard is auxiliary to a main safeguard on the opposite side of the guide surface.

Electric router

A cutting depth adjustment mechanism for a router having a nut engaged on a guide bolt for adjusting the depth of cut. Cutting depth can be coursely adjusted without rotation of the guide bolt relative to the adjusting nut. This can be accomplished by either disengaging the adjusting nut from the guide bolt or by releasing the adjusting nut from the main body member and sliding the nut along a longitudinally formed slot in the main body member.
