The present disclosure relates to a display device including: a flexible substrate including an active area and a bezel area disposed outside the active area, the active area including a module area in which multiple holes are provided; a back plate disposed on one surface of the flexible substrate, and being provided with an opening disposed in a manner that corresponds to the module area; a thin-film transistor and wire formation layer disposed on another surface of the flexible substrate, and including multiple light-transmitting areas disposed in a manner that corresponds to the opening; and a module received within the opening of the back plate, wherein the module receives light from outside through the multiple light-transmitting areas, the multiple holes, and the opening.

A backlight unit capable of improving contrast properties by implementing a local dimming method while making the backlight unit slim, and a liquid crystal display using the same are provided. The backlight unit includes a first light guide plate array including a plurality of first light guide plates arranged in parallel in a first direction to define a first light guide channels; a second light guide plate array including a plurality of second light guide plates arranged in parallel in a second direction intersected with the first direction to a second light guide channels; a first light array arranged near at least one end of the first light guide plate array to illuminate light to the at least one end of the first light guide plate array; and a second light array arranged near at least one end of the second light guide plate array to illuminate light to the at least one end of the second light guide plate array.

A backlight module is disclosed. The backlight module includes a light source producing light, a reflective plate that is positioned under the light source to reflect the light, and a prism plate including an incident surface and an emitting surface. The prism plate is positioned on the light source so that direct light from the light source and reflective light from the reflective plate are directly incident on the prism plate through the incident surface. A light scattering unit scattering the direct light and the reflective light is positioned on the incident surface of the prism plate, and a prism pattern changing a traveling path of light incident through the incident surface is positioned on the emitting surface of the prism plate.
